We all have days where we are killing it. Both our eyebrows are on fleek, we’re wearing matching underwear and we catch our train on time. The problem is there are also days where we wear our PJs for over twenty-four hours and do quite literally nothing but feel a numb wrath at the world that our boyfriend/pet/pizza delivery guy just cannot understand.

To fight this funk, create a list of instant mood boosters that you know work for you. Next time you can’t shift that stubborn gray cloud, reach for your SOS Happy List and work through each item (even if you don’t feel like it) and you’ll be back to your kick-ass self before you know it. Here are 10-staple mood-boosters to start you off…

1. Emotionally de-clutter

Forgive yourself, let go of grudges, and look forward. Journal for five minutes. Write down three things you are grateful for. Then jot down three goals for the next month or year.

2. Tidy for ten

Run around like a mad lady and clear your zen space and you will feel a burst of energy simply from having been productive. No one ever regrets a tidy.

3. Indulge yourself

Cook your favorite dinner, because why not? Head out in the fresh air and buy yourself something delicious. Or, perhaps create a Pinterest-worthy hot chocolate and slurp it up.

4.Pamper yourself

Now you can treat yourself to a pamper, whether that’s dolling yourself up or slathering yourself in fancy face masks – treat yourself to some loving.

5. Create hygge in your home

Create a space you’ll be happy in. Bring out your favorite scented candles, reach for that cozy blanket, turn on a glowing set of fairy lights and voila you have a sacred happy place to crawl into.

6. Meditate

Simply bringing your focus in on your breathing -breathing from your belly and not your chest- can fight stress and promote happiness. I also love the Color Yourself Calm mindfulness coloring book to bring yourself back to the present moment and distract from negative thoughts.

7. Try bed yoga

We all know exercise can boost our mood. I like Sjana Earp’s ten-minute bed yoga. It’s silly easy and although I start off feeling impatient, a few minutes in I feel calm and more in control of my mood.

8. Connect with a friend

Now you’re in a calmer space, reach for your phone and call a friend you haven’t spoken to for a while. Bonding with a loved one does wonders for your energy levels and laughter really is the cheapest medicine.

9. Make exciting plans

Make a plan to do something you’ve wanted to do and get it arranged. Having something exciting to look forward to will instantly help shake bad feelings.

10. Dance to your favorite song

This is the quickest and easiest way to lift your mood. Maybe have a sing-a-long or a boogie around your room too for good measure? Before you know it, you’ll be back to your kick-ass self.

Remember you’re in control of your own happiness, and why make is difficult for yourself? If you’re surroundings and actions aren’t encouraging happiness what are they doing?

Thanks for the great tips. I can always tell when my office mate is having a bad because she runs around making her desk and cube tidy for a few minutes. I tend to watch a funny or cute YouTube video for about 10 minutes and I am breathing better.

I just binge watch my favorite youtubers. Never thought watching someone else via YouTube could actually make someone feel better but it does!

Weather pending, I go for a 15 minute walk around neighborhood. Just being in nature always lifts my mood, and mindful breathing helps.
