4 Simple Ways To Invest Your Money In Your Twenties

So, if you’re ready to invest for your future and make some money with the money you already have – here are a few simple ways to start learning about investing in your twenties.

1. Save before you invest

You need to have something to invest, which can be tricky if money management isn’t your strong suit. You can use a savings app to help you keep track of your incomings and outgoings, or just use an old fashioned method like the cookie jar/envelope method, where you withdraw cash and stash it away. Investing requires savings!

2. Get some financial advice

If you want to take investing seriously, it’s a good idea to make a date with a financial advisor. No matter how clueless you are, it’s their job to sit down and explain everything to you and help you get a better grip on your money. If you’d rather learn it for yourself, start by checking websites like Money Under 30. They can help you understand the jargon and how investing actually works.

3. Use an app

Apps like Acorns and Stash will help you invest right from your phone with as little as $5. Acorns invests your spare change, while stash helps you make low investments, making it as painless as it possibly could be. You won’t even miss that small percentage that’s rounded up.

4. Let someone else do it for you

Use Betterment to help you automate your investment plan. Fill in the little questionnaire and it’ll tell you what kind of savings plan you might be interested in, all you have to do is sign up and they’ll keep your investments safe, secure and painless.

  • Love this post! I think there needs to be more articles for young people about saving and investing. We didn’t learn this in school, even though it’s so beneficial to us all! I will check out these apps, sounds helpful and pretty easy.

    Thanks CGD!

  • I love Betterment! You can just set it and forget it. I have an automatic contribution and I’ve set my stock/bond ratio, and they automatically balance it for you (e.g. your stocks grow a lot and the percentage is too high, they’ll add more of the deposit to the bonds to balance it out).

  • Wow just reading this post is stressing me out! (Read: I know it’s something I need to do but I don’t wannnnnna ): #BookmarkingForaLaterDate)
