5 Bad Habits You Need To Let Go of If You Want To Be Happier

Think about the last time you were truly happy. An uninterrupted moment of positivity. Little moments come along in the middle of the week, driving in the sunshine, picnics, friends, rooftop bars. These happy moments are great, but wouldn’t it be great if we could be as happy and care-free as that most of the time? Go-getters try to turn negative thinking into positive action, that’s a fact. But it’s hard! It’s part of being human to be negative sometimes, you need to cut the good with the bad and kick bad habits in the butt if you want to be positive and happy.

Remember: You deserve to be happy, don’t be the one holding yourself back from it all! Here are the six bad habits you need to let go of to be a happier version of you.

1. Trying to control everything

Not everything can be controlled. Some things are out of your hands. I know that can be hard to hear, if you’re like me you like to stay on top of everything, but it’s true. Sometimes you have to let someone else take the lead, that way you won’t have stress in all areas of your life and you’ll be able to look at things from an outside perspective – leading to happier thoughts!

2. Depending on others to make you happy

This is one that I had to personally learn, and most of my friends too. I think it’s a lesson you learn in your early twenties, stop depending on others to be happy! Learn to be alone. Love yourself before you love others, and if you do, you need to keep hold of that throughout. You need to be able to make yourself happy whether that’s with your career, your family or whatever it is before you let someone enter your life. No one person should determine whether you’re happy or not.

3. Caring what other people think!

Not everyone is going to like you, just like not everyone wants to support you.  If you listen and care about what every single person you met thought of you, you’d never be happy. Cut people out of your life who haven’t supported you, and don’t dwell on people who you don’t click with. I know it’s hard, but once you stop caring and start living you feel free!

4. Blaming others

We’ve all done this when you make a mistake you don’t want to take the blame. Or maybe it wasn’t actually your fault, so you pass the blame along to whoever’s fault it actually was. Remember though, blame won’t solve the problem. Instead, figure out a way to fix it and if you need to pass blame, allow that person to take the blame themselves. You’re a bigger person if you move on and sort out the mess. Even if you did make a mistake, hold your hands up, take the consequences and sort it out. You’ll feel bad for a while, but when you look back you’ll be proud of yourself and more positive about the way you handle things!

5. Not being yourself

Stay true to yourself, don’t agree just for the sake of it. The younger you are, the harder this one is, because somehow we think to be friends with people we have to like the same things! Eventually, though, your friends come to know the real you, and they love you for it. Be proud of who you are. You are an individual and there is nobody quite like you. We’re all unique and different. Even if we share the same passions and laugh at the same jokes. You don’t need to change yourself to be successful or more liked!
