If you’re the Career Girl who wants to have it all, you need to make sure you’re working your metabolism. It’s vital if we want our body to burn calories, which we do, obviously! However, luckily for some girls out there, you can be gifted with a fast metabolism, which means you can lose weight easily. However, if you’re like me and have a non-existent metabolism, here are a few rituals I live by to keep my body ticking.

Eat enough

Silly enough, some people don’t realize that eating more is better for weight loss. When you’re not eating regularly, the body is starved of the nutrients it genuinely needs. So if your body doesn’t get its oil to power, then your metabolism isn’t going to be able to do its job. The trick is to eat little and often, just because I’m advising you to eat more, doesn’t mean that you should go crazy with the junk food. Eat low-calorie foods all through your day, and you’ll find you won’t even be hungry.

Breakfast is still the most important meal of the day

We hear it enough, but when you’re a busy woman on the move, our morning breakfasts become coffee. So when lunch arrives, we are so hungry we dream about all the things we have to have. Usually naughty foods, the diet is out of the window and waiting to be re-started tomorrow. Eating breakfast jump-starts the metabolism and keeps energy high all day. If you are busy in the morning, make a smoothie the night before, grab a yogurt or take porridge to work. Make sure to eat something!

Get your protein in

Your body needs protein to maintain lean muscle. Add chicken to your salad, have salmon for dinner or add some protein packed snacks for during the day such as greek yogurt, nuts or peanut butter and apple slices.

Be active for 30 mins to an hour every day if you can

To increase your metabolism, you need to do exercises that drain the muscles of glucose rather than fatty acids. This means any high-intensity exercise or strength-training workout. You’ll increase your metabolism for much longer after you’re done working out.

Green tea

Our savior! Caffeine does help increase your metabolism but we need to be careful how many cups of tea and coffee we consume in our day as it can send our blood pressure through the roof! A healthier alternative is green tea. There are so many flavors these days, you’ll be sure to find one you love!

By following these steps you’ll sleep better, have more energy, feel firmer, and notice your weight drop in a healthy way.
