These Six Herbs Will Help You Fall Asleep Faster

I am, and always will be a night owl. I’m like a vampire in the daylight, and spend most of the day missing bed. It’s not great when the alarm is set for 7 am, and I’m singing to Beyonce gone midnight. So when it comes to sleep, I need some extra help. And with seventy million people in the USA alone having trouble getting some shut-eye, I think you might need some help too.

That’s why I’ve decided to look into natural ways to fall asleep fast. These herbs, flowers, and supplements will definitely help you catch some zs.

1. Valerian root

If you have major difficulties falling asleep, Valerian will cure that! It is said to help you fall asleep faster, and improve the quality of sleep. Supplements containing valerian root are usually good for stress and anxiety because they help to calm and quiet the mind.

2. Passionflower

The passionflower not only helps induce sleep, but it has anti-anxiety properties. Perfect for releasing some nervous tension, this herb’s uses for agitation and insomnia relief mean it has proven popular all over the world for centuries. Because it’s mild, the inducing of sleep is safe, restful and a calming. How sleep should be!

3. California Poppy

More of a hardcore sleep inducer, California Poppy is helpful for those who cannot sleep because of pain. The herb will allow you to sleep comfortably through the night without being woken by any muscular pain. And because you’re allowing your body to heal in sleep, it will speed up the process of healing – and you’ll start to feel better in no time.

4. Ashwagandha

Featured previously in another article, showing some of its other benefits, Ashwagandha is rolling off our tongues again. And this time, it’s to help you get some rest. This herb’s strategy is not to sedate an exhausted body but to rebuild its reserve so it can function properly again on its own. It’s so natural that it’s a winner for me.

5. Magnolia Bark

When it comes to interrupted sleep, Magnolia is the herb that solves this problem and helps reduce any anxiety we get from being woken up through the night. Part of Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, it’s perfect for relaxing the body and reducing stress. It will help reset your sleep cycle over six weeks, but should only be used short-term.

6. Lavender

Probably the most famous, and for a reason. You can have the smell of lavender diffused through the room to ingest it naturally and help ease any anxiety and fall asleep with ease. The herb will help you sleep more soundly, and give you more energy the next morning!

  • Isabel

Chamomile tea all the way! Some of these suggested are no joke, poppy is literally opium. Probably should not be using that very often. However it is cool to learn about some of these

    • Hi Isabel! Glad you think it’s cool, the California Poppy has gentle sedative effects and does contain sedative alkaloids, but it contains no real opium, so no worries there, you can also buy it at most health stores. It’s used for anxiety and insomnia. :-)
