Ready to make 2017 your best year yet? There’s still time to cement some good habits and take care of yourself before the New Year takes hold. Or, if you’re ready to give yourself a fresh start, this should be the year you do things differently.

So, if you’re looking to take care of yourself, here are a few things you need to do.

1. Start at 5 am

Successful women say that waking up at 5 am, is the best way to get things sorted. Whether you want to write a book, be fit and healthy, prepare for work or have some time to yourself, getting up early is the best time for it. It means you have to go to bed earlier but it’ll make your day feel longer and more productive.

2. Energize your commute

Depending how long your commute is, you could make use of the time you have and actually enjoy it. Download a book from Audible, listen to a podcast, or plan to energize your commute with an uplifting playlist. If you can afford to, go for a walk in place of some of your transport options. 10,000 steps a day is the recommended amount to lose weight and get healthy.

3. Try a standing desk

Standing desks are all the range, it’s not ideal to be on your feet for long periods of time. But it’s also not ideal to be sitting for a long time, so alternating between a standing desk and sitting down is the healthiest way to work. Spend a few hours on your feet and then sit down. Sitting for extended periods of time might even shave years off your life! No thanks!

4. Start a worry journal

You can start a worry journal to dump feelings of stress and anxiety or a gratitude journal to keep track of contented feelings. Keeping a record of your emotions and the things that happen to you can be a great way to process feelings. 2017 is the year of the journal, buy a pretty one and start writing in it every morning.

5. Get an activity tracker

To encourage you to have your healthiest year yet, get an activity tracker like a Fitbit and track how fit and healthy you are being. Using a device that shows you how active you are compared to recommended levels and rewards you when you’re healthy, you’ll be more encouraged to keep an eye on your fitness levels and less likely to sit down for long periods of time. The Fitbit Charge 2 is available here.

6. Upgrade your water

Ice water will help you burn more calories, while hot water and lemon will speed up your metabolism. Keeping yourself hydrated this year will help improve your mind, body, and skin. So say goodbye to unhealthy sugary drinks and upgrade your regular water with fruit, ice, and water enhancers. You can even infuse your drinking water with crystals!

7. Cleanse your devices

De-cluttering your devices can help de-clutter your mind. Take some time to go through your emails, apps, and programs and give your devices a little cleanse before 2017, they need a detox too!

8. Work smarter, not harder

Whether it’s chores or work tasks, stop leaving the hardest tasks until the end of the day and be strategic about the work you’re doing. The best thing to do is to start with the task that you’re least enthused about, and then use the rest of the day to focus on the easier, more pleasant ones!

I actually really like drinking water with lemon in it so I’ll definitely be drinking more of that. Waking at 5am sounds like a nightmare but I guess I’ll have to try it!

Being a blogger I can say that I sit quite a lot. Can’t imagine how is it possible for me to stand while using the computer but would definitely wanna try the standing desk! Haha👌🏼🙈

  • I actually disagree with the first one. Getting up at five in the morning has nothing to do with success! Getting enough sleep does. I work nights so if I get up at five, I will be exhausted and not productive at all. This tip should be more like getting 8-10 hours of sleep and not hitting snooze will make you more successful.

Oh, 5 am may be a little too early for me :D but I do 6 am – that’s still earlier than I did some months before :D
Love this post and your tips in general. Really really inspiring blog! xx Ana http://www.disasterdiary.de

  • I really do agree with the first step. Every time I wake up early, I already feel in a good mood that I can do a lot of things ahead and I have a longer day. Every time I wake up late, I hate myself because I feel unproductive right away. And of course, we should also sleep early. We need the energy for tomorrow, huh? :)

  • I really need to declutter my devices!

  • Honestly I don’t mind waking up at 5am. I get to work while the city is just waking up and I get to catch the sunrise =o)

  • I should definetly go for a standing desk, as a student and a blogger I spend most of my time sitting down… Gonna clean all my devices right now as well :)
