The 8-Step Skin Care Routine Every Twenty-Something Needs

Looking after your skin as you get older isn’t difficult, you might need to switch it up a bit and add new products because as you get older you’ll find new issues arise. Instead of spots and breakouts, you might suffer from dry patches and adult acne. Instead of oil, you might find yourself worrying over your first every wrinkle!

Growing up is hard, luckily this skincare routine isn’t!

1. Shake up your diet

Your diet in your late teens/early twenties needs to be dramatically different by the time you reach your late twenties. You should try to get more healthy fats (like avocado) into your diet, and less junk food. Eat fish, vegetables, and salads, and treat yourself to junk on the weekend. Your body and skin will forgive you for it. We’ve got some healthy dinners you’ll absolutely love that taste incredible!

2. Keep your skin care routine a staple of your daily life

Cleanse, tone, moisturize. And make no apologies for sticking to what works. By your mid-twenties you might have to swap out your favorites for something a little gentler. I am so in love with this cleansing water. It cleanses, tones, and removes makeup in one step. It works super hard and is really gentle on your skin. Your skin will feel refreshed not tight or irritated! Buy it here.

3. Protect yourself from premature aging

Women who live in the big cities age so much faster than those who don’t. That’s a huge downside to cosmopolitan life, and we’re not sure that all the cocktails and rooftop bars make up for it. I mean, aging is a part of life, but nobody wants to see those wrinkles forming in their late twenties. So you need to protect yourself from the biggest cause of premature aging…pollution.

This anti-aging treatment protects skin long before you start to see the results. So if you’ve been exposed to pollution, no worries. This treatment puts a silky bubble around your skin and stops any environmental damage in its tracks. Say goodbye to dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness! Buy it here.

4. Never ever forget sunscreen

Even in the winter, even when it’s cloudy, you will see a dramatic difference if you use sunscreen every day. Why? It protects your skin from UV rays, so you won’t develop wrinkles or skin damage, but it also keeps your skin super hydrated. Why not swap out your setting spray for one that also protects your skin from the sun? Genius, right? This spray won’t damage your makeup, helps it stay all day and keeps you refreshed and protected with SPF 50. Buy it here.

5. Change your face towel often

You can forget this one, but it makes a massive difference. Little mistakes are less forgiven the older you get, so change your face towel often to avoid bacteria transferring to your skin and creating irritation and breakouts!

6. Get your beauty sleep

Dermatologists recommend seven hours of beauty sleep every evening. It’s easier said than done, we know. I have everything by Slip on my wish list right now. Not just their genius silk sleep mask that cares for your skin, but all their beautiful pillow cases too. While you sleep you know that your products aren’t slipping off your skin and staining your pillowcases, plus you won’t get those annoying creases or wrinkles from your pillow, and you’ll wake up with hydrated, plump skin. Buy it here.

7. Start taking a supplement

There are some great supplements out there that will help you have perfect skin and give you everything you need for a balanced, healthy diet, too. Equi London’s Beautiful supplement is seriously good, successful women all over the world use it to help them keep their skin looking great. The reviews speak for themselves, seriously. Check it out here. We’ve also got 20% off for all Career Girls, use the code EQUICGD20!

8. Moisturize everywhere

Don’t just stop at your jawline, moisturize your neck too, and invest in a decent body moisturizer to make sure all your skin is hydrated and doesn’t age. The best moisturizer I’ve ever tried is Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s really worth it. It works magic while you sleep, preventing spots, repairing skin and adding an other-worldly glow. If I stop using it my skin gets seriously dull and dry. It’s the perfect moisturizer for every birthday! Buy it here.

  • These are all great ideas! I try to follow most of them, but I find it crazy that people int heir 20s ignore some of these things… simple stuff like washing your face at night, using moisturizer and sunscreen (the most important one)!!

  • Yes, sunscreen is SO essential!!! Even if that’s the only anti-aging precaution one takes, it’s the most important!

  • Need to start doing all of these before it’s too late! haha x

  • Great list! Happy to say I tick off all on it and I can add one more – regular exfoliation! REN makes the most amazing enzyme peeling EVER! Your skin feels like a baby’s bum afterwards and it even helps with issues like small wrinkles and pigmentation. Definitely recommend!
