Nothing is as empowering as having a really cool work spouse to do “career life” with. This makes life much more fun and easy, especially when things in the office get tough. That’s why it’s important to have someone that you can trust and confide in. Someone who understands your rough day, someone who gets it. It’s your work bestie, your other half, the one who can turn that frown upside down! And with them, your whole work experience changes and it’s all down to these five things:
1. You can’t wait to reunite on a Monday
The case of the Monday blues will slowly diminish when all you can think about is getting sh*t done with your work wife. Whether you’re working together on a project or just motivating each other in your respective tasks, a true work bestie knows how to keep you on track!
2. Lunch breaks become more productive
While it’s great to kick back and watch endless travel vlogs on Youtube over lunch alone, having a ‘work wife’ forces you to get away from the desk and to go out in the open. You might go shopping, eat together, or just talk about your plans for world domination – but it feels so much more rewarding than eating over the computer!
3. You’ve always got someone in your corner
Sometimes you’ll have a bad day, no matter how much you love your job. When you need to rant about how your other colleagues are not pulling their load, you know that you can count on your work spouse to listen. It’s important to have someone to check in with so that you know you’re on the right track.
4. You network together
You pool your contacts together, whether it’s at after work drinks or an event where neither of you know anyone – together you’ve got this! Also, you know your work wife is always there if the office networking parties take a dull turn!
5. You learn to value one another
This is true when one of you eventually leave the job and move on to a new company. I had the pleasure of a work wife in my previous job. We were each other’s pillar when challenges in the office hit. Now that both of us have other jobs, we find that when we get together it’s like we never left! You’ll definitely value the friendship even after moving on, thanks to the bittersweet memories of working together and being there for each other. When one of you goes on vacay, the other is lost, but if you were to leave the job – you know you’ll be there for each other!
