Here at CGD HQ, we’re planning our summer vacations right now, and it’s great to think about sunbathing and enjoying sangria, but at the same time there’s a bit of mild panic in the offices. Some of us have exercised on and off but not really taken it seriously, and we all want to look our best on holiday, which means we have to start getting strict!
This is how we’re getting in shape now for our upcoming vacations!
1. Start with a plan
Celina and I are following the Kayla plan, both the diet plan and the workouts. She’s being strict with it, but I’m limited as to when I can do my workouts so I’ve modified it slightly. Figure out what your goal is and when you want to achieve it by and think about that every time you feel your motivation falling. I’ve already lost weight in just two weeks from eating soup in the office, drinking water or caffeine-free soda once in a while and banishing snacks like crisps and chocolates.
2. Overhaul your diet
I’m using My Fitness Pal to log my food for the day so I know my daily limit and whether certain foods are bad for me. You’d be surprised how many of your daily calories a simple yogurt can contain! It educates you, helping you to make smarter food choices. Kayla’s plan also contains recipes and food suggestions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Snack-wise, you can’t beat an apple with peanut butter!

3. Be active every day
It’s kind of difficult when you’re sitting in an office every day, but Kayla’s workouts are just 28 minutes, and on rest days you can do something like a 45-minute walk. Before we got started, I would walk home every night, now I’m alternating long walks with 10-20 minutes of jump rope. It’s tough but if you distract yourself while you go, it’s easy. You can even do it in front of the TV.

4. Stay motivated
I know just how far away that goal seems. I want to be fitter by June, and it feels like so far away, especially when you’re in your first few weeks. But don’t worry, your dedication will pay off. Celina, Ellen, and I are motivating each other to reach our goals but when motivation is low we find that YouTube videos, taking progress photos, looking at transformation photos, and sometimes even the My Fitness Pal forums help. Kayla Itsines shares transformation photos on her Instagram account that will give you a serious kick in the butt to keep going!
