13 Simple Ways To Improve Your Life

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the first 22 years of my life is that there’s always room for self-improvement. Life can be tough at times, especially when stress and worries fill our days and work, studies, and social time all come together to make us feel super stressed. But the truth is that it takes nothing but an open mindset to improve your life, making a few little adjustments can go a long way. Here are some good first steps to follow:

1. Slow Down

Life in the fast lane can be exhausting and drain you of all your energy. Even worse than that it makes you not appreciate what you have. Hold back, slow down and simply enjoy the people in your life.

2. Declutter Your Life

The art of decluttering your space and mind is a very fine one. Decluttering can help you achieving long-term goals while freeing up some space in your brain!

3. Step Away From Negative People

If you want to be happy you need to surround yourself with people that only want the best for you. Say bye to the people that let you down and only bring negativity in your life.

4. Start A Journal

A journal can be a girl’s best friend. If you’re happy, upset, vulnerable just take it all out on your personal diary: it will always be there to “listen” to you.

5. Enjoy Food

Even if it can be tempting when the workload is high, never skip meals! Enjoy healthy meals and cook foods that are good for your mind, body, and soul.

6. Show Gratitude

Appreciate what you have and show the world you’re grateful for all your experiences. What might look like not a big deal to you might be someone else’s lifetime dream so make sure to appreciate all the little things.

7. Treat Your Body Right

If feeling more confident about the way you look can make a big improvement in your life then be the change you want to see. Eat healthily and exercise you will soon see the outcome of all your sacrifices.

8. Smile More

Positivity brings more positivity. See what a difference smiling at strangers can have, smile more and you’ll feel more positive!

9. Volunteer

Giving back is the most fulfilling experience. If you have a little bit of free time in your hands invest it in those people who are in need of it, the elderly, homeless, shelter dogs. It will bring more joy to your life than you ever thought.

10. Make Spontaneous Decisions

Stop overthinking and trust your gut, it will help you live a lighter life with a lighter head.

11. Treat Yourself

Not always, but every once in a while dedicate yourself some solo time and spoil yourself a bit!

12. Read More

The best way to improve yourself is by learning from people that inspire us. Head over to your favorite bookstore and read the words of brilliant minds.

13. Listen To Podcasts

Podcasts are the best way to get a rush of motivation even when you have little time in your hands. Plus, they help you learn and discover new things every day!

  • Yes to everything here! It’s so easy to get caught up in the problems and annoying things in life, but really, if you do some (or all!) of what’s here in your post, something like your usual going to work or going to the gym can become a lot more enjoyable!

  • LOVE this list! In particular I really want to start journaling more, I currently just write a sentence a day but I’d love to include more photos

  • Such a great list, I’m feeling so overwhelmed with life at the moment and this little list would really help if I could start doing some of it to help me

  • I love number 10, I feel like I could definitely be more spontaneous with my decisions! ♥

  • I absolutely love all of these and I believe the first one resonated with me the most. In a world where the word of the day is ‘hustle’ you can very easily forget to take time to de-stress and relax and as a result – you could quickly burn out. I have to remind myself that every day. Slow.Down. :)

  • a wonderful list.. somethings we all should try to do more often.

I personally am definitely an over-thinker. So to be more spontaneous is top of my list! :)

Great list! I’d have to add ‘go outside’. I forget it too often, even though it always gives me an energy boost and lifts up my mood like nothing else does (especially when the sun is shining :)

  • This is such a great list! I’m such a believer in treating yourself. It’s a great way to turn your mood when you’re feeling down and pat yourself on the back after a big accomplishment!

  • Brenda Brooks

Love how inspirational this was, thank you so much for the tips (: My worst nightmare is over-thinking, I always do that and I know I should stop doing so.

At 58 years old, I have learned many things in life. Many of them are on your list! My #1 life rule is to wake up every morning and be grateful. Grateful for the things we have been blessed with. It keeps me positive, grounded and focused on being a good person.

  • Great tips. Slow down deserves to be first on the list, because we all seem to be in a rush to… I don’t know! :D I’m a terrible overthinker. I need to make more spontaneous decision. Including with my business, not just life in general. Thank you! :)

  • I particularly like point 3 – stay away from negative people. It’s really hard to make any sort of progress when surrounded by toxic people.
