Mornings, you either love them or hate them. If you’re a morning person, you’ll be jumping out of bed at the crack of dawn. If not, you’ll be groaning, hitting snooze and wishing you had more time in bed. Your mornings might consist of rolling out of bed, throwing on some clothes and rushing out the door. In that case, you’re probably wondering how to wake up and feel excited and energetic.
You could be working out, eating a healthy breakfast, and enjoying the time you have to yourself! Don’t worry, here are a few little hacks to make your mornings more exciting.
1. Adopt the mindset of a morning person
No matter how tired you may feel if you get yourself into the mindset of a morning person, it’ll be a lot easier to feel like a morning person. So first thing’s first, no lie-ins. Get up, straighten your back, and smile. You’re awake. You’ve got a whole day ahead of you, and you’re excited about it. Ignore the thoughts in your head that are cursing you. Ignore any symptoms of tiredness you feel. If you do this, you’ll feel more excited for the day ahead.
2. Adjust gradually
Don’t expect to just jump out of bed and start doing jumping jacks, you’re going to need some time to adjust. That’s why you should invest in a wake-up light, or leave the curtains open a touch. Let your body get used to natural light when you wake up, of course, that’s easier said than done when it’s dark all the time. Your circadian rhythms determine when you feel awake, and a wake-up light or some kind of gradual light in the morning will help to train yourself that this is the time you need to wake up and feel fresh.
3. Have some live enzymes
Instead of sliding downstairs for a quick glass of water or a cup of coffee before you run out of the door, cut yourself up some oranges and juice them yourself. That way, you get the live enzymes from the juice and will feel more alert and awake. Live enzymes in fruit juice will give you a boost of energy that you can’t get anywhere else.
4. Create your happy list
Take five minutes in the morning to list a few things you’re happy about. Maybe you’re super excited about the Christmas period. Maybe you’re looking forward to projects in 2018, or maybe it’s the little things, like having a roof over your head or your family and friends. It’ll help you feel all warm and fuzzy in the morning, instead of flat and tired.
This planner will let you write your list, plus all the self-care you’re planning to do to make yourself feel on top. With sections for how much water you’re drinking, the exercise you’re doing and food you’re eating, you’ll be excited to start each new day and write in your planner. Get it here.
5. Start with morning affirmations
While you do your makeup or brush your teeth, think of your morning mantras. What are you going to achieve today? How are you going to feel? Set the mood for the day by giving yourself a purpose. Today I’m going to be confident and great, no matter what. Today I’m going to smash my goals and nothing’s getting me down. It helps if you have some mood-boosting music playing, but you can easily do this by yourself, in the mirror.
6. Hack your shower
A cold shower blast will wake you up, that’s true. But a vitamin shower will go even further. You can even replace your shower head and inject it with a vitamin shot, and you’ll have a shower that’ll wake you up, and do all kinds of good for yourself and your body. Seriously, now that’s cool.
7. Try this quick fix for when you’re feeling sleepy
If all else fails, do some light exercise. Yes, we’re all going to fatten up over Christmas, but it’s a good idea to get ahead of the game and start doing some workouts. Something simple like a 7-minute morning workout will get your blood pumping and help you feel more awake and excited. Don’t push yourself too hard, but if you’re really struggling – go for it.
