How To Overcome Your Fear Of Being Judged And Follow Your Dreams

Every human being has an innate fear of being judged. As Career Girls, it’s easy to fall deep into the routine of being fearful of other’s opinions of us; as we are constantly under immense pressure, from our co-workers, ourselves, and our superiors. We have extremely high standards for ourselves and our work, which can make us fearful of not being good enough or not being highly regarded by those around us.

There are ways to combat this fear, and it’s important to do so in order to be happy, relaxed, and overall, successful. Constantly fearing judgement will have negative influences on your mental and emotional health, and can lead up to severe anxiety or social anxiety. Taking a deep breath and a step back is important in realizing your true worth and value. Read on below for some advice, tips, and tricks on how to overcome this fear as much as possible.

Look back at all you’ve accomplished.

Realizing the successes and achievements you’ve earned is a good way to learn your value and self-worth. Confidence is important in all aspects of your life, and constantly doubting yourself is one way to squander all pieces of confidence inside of you. Look back on all the things you’ve achieved in the last year, and remind yourself of how successful you are and of the fact that you can do anything you put your mind to. Believe in yourself.

You’re not the only one.

Know that everyone around you is probably suffering from the same fears and doubt as you are, and they too wish that they had a set of ways to overcome that fear. Feel empowered by the fact that you are not alone in this sometimes overwhelming fear. Don’t underestimate how much others are rooting for you to succeed, too!

Breathe.

Sometimes, stepping back and taking a few deep breaths is the best way to calm your nerves and ease your mind. If you feel nervous about presenting, about giving an idea, or about anything relating being judged, you should try taking deep breaths in the moments before any one of those things occurs. Infinite numbers of research studies have been conducted on the effects of breathing on different levels of neurotransmitters and chemicals in the brain, but more specifically, relating to happiness, fears, anxiety and more.

Reap the rewards of facing your fears

Career Girls, it’s easy to get caught up in a mild, or even extreme, fear of being judged. Whether it be by peers, mentors, friends, family, or bosses, there’s nothing as intimidating as putting yourself out there, vulnerable and open to criticism.

But, on the flipside, there may not be anything as rewarding: going the distance and putting yourself out there distinguishes you from others; it gives others an impression of you as a leader and can help build up your confidence levels. Plus, you never know, you could manage to overcome your fear of being judged, put an idea out there, and possibly end up with a life changing career move that others will recognize you for and be inspired by.

Don’t fear girls, and remember, you’re not alone in this fear, and others want you to succeed!
