How To Set Goals And Smash Them

You’re not alone ladies, we all need help to stay motivated and keep track of our goals. Life can sometimes just escape us sometimes, and we end up going through the motions instead of doing something worthwhile. Maybe make it your mission this week to make a step in the right direction, remember that this is your time and you won’t get it back. So this Thursday we want to give you a burst of motivation to make sure you know how to set and smash goals!

1. Plan for your success

It’s all about planning ladies. You’ve heard here enough – so it should be drilled in by now! There is no way you’ll be able to achieve your goals if you don’t plan for them. We all know it’s easy to get demotivated – that’s where a plan comes in to keep you track. Celebrate every step, every milestone!

2. Take risks

Life is all about risks. If you turn down an amazing opportunity because of your non-career job then you’re not going to get any further. Risks can be scary, and trust me, I’ve been there. I always get to the line, but can never jump. That’s why sometimes I need a push. But once you’ve jumped, it’s only scary for a little while, until you land and feel amazing!

3. Reassess

A lot of our goals were made yonks ago! It’s easy to get lost in a list of goals, especially when outside factors pull you here, there and everywhere. Sitting down and reassessing what you want to get done is a really good way of prioritizing. It’s getting rid of ‘lose 5lbs by July’, and instead of replacing it with ‘be in this spot by July.’

4. Stick to your inspiration

It’s hard to stick to your goals, otherwise, we would all feel so accomplished right now. But the one way I find that keeps me on track, and not head in space somewhere is to find something you love in your task. Doing something you love makes it feel like not work. So yeah, you might feel tired coming home after work tonight but you’re excited to tackle your project. Turn it into a hobby – and it will never feel like work again!

5. Be real

Come on, if your goal is to earn a million dollars by the time your thirty, you’re being unrealistic. Stop wasting your time on goals that do nothing for you. And be real. If you are realistic, your goals will actually happen because you can actually achieve them!

6. Baby steps

Look, you don’t want to run before you walk. Go in all steam ahead yes, but don’t say must achieve dream career by next year. This comes into your planning. But break your goal up into steps, so once you’ve completed these baby steps you will recognise your growth. This, in turn, will keep you motivated, because you’re the girl who can!

  • Some great points here Libby!

A lot of people I speak with get a feeling of burnout and need to “reboot” their motivation. Do you have any tips or thoughts on the best ways you do this or advice you can share?

I think point 4 is the most poignant for me, because without a ‘why’ you’re doing it, you can lose clarity on what you’re trying to achieve in the long run and decision making can become fuzzy.

Would be good to hear your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    Sam
