Sometimes it’s just so easy getting stuck into a routine in our day to day life. Wake up at 6 am, get to work at 9 am, leave work at 6 pm, gym, eat, shower, sleep. Then Repeat. But after a while, this lifestyle will start to wear you down. But there’s a way to escape this suffering. By taking these little steps to remind yourself what life is actually about. The reason why you work your perfectly squatted butt off! This is how to improve your life and be happy!
1. Take some time off to be with your friends
Now I don’t mean skip out on work. That’s a route to unemployment. But when there is a bank holiday weekend, make plans to go drinking, don’t like drinking? Go for dinner! Or if you’re feeling a little more spontaneous, take a trip! You need to spend quality time with someone besides your laptop.
2. Challenge yourself
Now, this probably seems more like a burden right? But I quite like to challenge myself, whether it’s at work or at home. The more of these you accomplish. The more successful you’ll feel. You will feel like you’ve actually done something in your day.
3. Practice smiling
This sounds a bit weird right? Just staring in the mirror smiling when in reality you probably feel a little sluggish. But although brains are these amazing things, they can be a little stupid at times (maybe mine more than yours.) There’s this thing called ‘Biofeedback’, which is when we feel all sorts, the brain tries to figure out what’s going on. It feels the muscles in our mouth smiling, so thinks – oh damn, I must be happy! It’s been said that forcing a smile brings as much happiness of the equivalent of two thousand chocolate bars. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the pushups.

4. Declutter!
Now take this, either way, decluttering your home and bag of excess junk you no longer need or use. Or declutter your life- if you’re feeling brave. We all have them, people in our lives that actually do more harm than good. Maybe it’s an ex-boyfriend who occasionally booty calls you or a friend who calls you every time their in trouble, but won’t answer your pleas for help. Either way, decluttering may at first fill you with a sense of dread, but once it’s done, you will feel free! Released! This will literally be a weight off your shoulders.
5. Squeeze your pressure points
Life can be so stressful especially for us Career Girls, in times when you feel like you want to scream at the world, stop and try this out. Give your ears a Lil rub. Every time you rub, pull or squeeze your ears you hit acupuncture points in your ears. This then sends happy emotions around the body! By doing this you are enhancing your immune systems and minimizing the feeling of tension and stress.
6. Park as far away from the door as possible
If you’re driving to whatever destination, whether its work or the cinema, park as far from the door as possible. That’s probably the opposite of what you’re currently doing. But that extra little bit of exercise is a godsend when you’re going to be sat on your butt for the next 9 hours. If you use public transport rather than drive, then get off a few stops early. Not only are you being active but you are also getting plenty of fresh air and you get to enjoy a bit of nature!
7. Maintain relationships
If you’re like me, a bit ditzy on the communications front, this tip will be bundles of help. You don’t mean to ignore your friends but with your busy life, they are often a second thought. Unless something pops up that is a physical reminder the fact of the matter is, you probably won’t talk. I’ve lost contact with people who I used to spend every waking minute with. So here’s my tip. To save feelings, decide on a person to text or call once a week, or once a day and rotate your list. You will find yourself hanging out and talking to a whole range of people in your life, rather than just the same five.

Great tips! I will definitely try to keep up with number 7. Been doing that way too seldom lately.

I love this especially the last one “maintaining relationships” people give you life and I need them in my life more often ??
?☝?So true!! Me too!!:)
Thanks Tuedor! Friends are vital in our lives, more so than we probably realise. I don’t even notice but if I spend a long time away from friends I become more groggy. Do you have any tips on maintaining friendships when you live a busy life?
You too Miss K, what are your tips on maintaining the relationships in your life?
This is great news Nicki, make sure you not to overwork yourself. It can often feel like we dont have enough hours in the day to be both successful and social! But everyone needs a break and friends make us feel a thousand times better! Make sure to tell us how you got on!
– Add them to your calendar (like birthday reminders).
– Send cute postcards by post with random short messages. My friends love these especially as we seem to only communicate online.
No time to do it yourself ask moo cards to do it for you.
– Instaphotos post to bring back memories – make sure you tag them ??. This always triggers a coffee date ❤️❤️??
I definitely feel like having a balanced schedule and routine persay to make time for self and friends and family is one of my tips for sure. This is a great way to make time for yourself and re-energize and when the time comes to see family and friends, the time is more cherished for sure, especially when it is different friends and family that haven’t been seen in a while. =D.
Thanks!
