10 Easy Ways To Learn New Skills This Summer

Summer is the perfect time to expand your horizons by learning something new. Learning new things will make you feel empowered, intelligent, and productive, as well as give you insight into new cultures and ideas. Learning new skills can also contribute to success in your career: you can use new skills, like Photoshop or programming, to add to your work performance.   Utilize these 10 methods and types of skills to use your summer to its’ fullest potential, and add some flavor to your life!

Learn a new language
Learning a new language allows you to experience culture. The Duolingo app is super fun, has a few different languages, and is interactive! It makes learning easier by having you do fun exercises and games.

Learn to cook
Take a cooking class!In many cities and stores, cooking classes on various topics, from beginner cooking to extravagant sushi classes. Take advantage and expand your culinary abilities!

Learn yoga:
This one can be done using books, movies, classes, or apps. Get out there! Using the summer to learn various things allows you to connect with others who have a similar drive.

Take a class on whatever it is you’ve wanted to learn
One of the biggest excuses people give for not trying new things is “I never have time!”. For us Career Girls especially, time is precious. Use the more relaxed schedules of summer to do that thing that you never get around to!

Use the Internet:
The internet is the easiest and quickest way to find a place to learn or a topic to learn about. A quick web search will give you the results you need to succeed in learning new things!

Partner up with a friend
There’s a pretty good chance that at least one friend of yours knows something you don’t, and vice versa. Make learning fun by teaching each other skills that one of you doesn’t have, or attend a class together!

Take a free online class
Many universities and colleges offer free online courses, such as Intro to Psychology, or Basic Computer Programming.

Hit the books
Go the old fashioned route and head to the library or your e-Reader. Books contain immeasurable amounts of information on every subject that there is to learn.

Learn how to draw/do art through websites like Drawspace
There are some amazingly interactive websites available as a community to grow new skills. Drawspace is one that allows you to access art lessons and use them one by one to learn through hands on activities.

Be adventurous:
If you want to really learn new skills during the summer, you have to get out there. You have to be willing to try, and you must accept that you might not be good at everything right away. Practice your new skills and believe in yourself, though, and by the fall, you’ll be a pro at tons!

  1. I love all of your suggestions and I really want to learn a new language. I am learning Greek and have some of the basics, but need to learn much more! I would also love to learn how to code. Finding the time is key, but in the summer you should definitely make the time!
