There are some girls who can make bargain-bin finds look like designer splurges. The secret to such an amazing style isn’t magic: It’s knowing how to spot the design details that make clothes seem cheap — and the ones that make them look way more expensive than they are.

Yes we know, some of you girls already read this extremely popular article. It was one of our first articles. but since we have so many new readers. We don’t want any of you to miss one of our most popular articles!

Today we’re sharing 10 personal tips to make your clothes look more expensive. As a personal stylist, I love to play around with my outfits and since I don’t have the budget to wear Chanel or Valentino all the time I have to be creative. Here are some of my favorite tricks to make your clothes look more expensive.

#1 – Replace cheap plastic buttons

The ultimate stylist tip! Replace cheap buttons with more expensive looking buttons. You can find amazing and affordable ones on Etsy.

#2 – Choose a simple bag without too much hardware

It is difficult to make cheap embellishment look more expensive. A simple bag like this amazing bucket bag is a better choice. In this case less is definitely more. I would say if there’s one thing a girl needs to invest in it’s a handbag but if you’re on a budget try to keep this tip in mind.

#3 – Buy cheap pumps in faux suede

Fake suede appears in most cases much more expensive than fake leather.

#4 -Buy a steamer

Wrinkles can make anything look cheap, but ironing is a hassle and many synthetics can’t be ironed. A good steamer like this one can blast wrinkles out of just about anything in a couple of minutes.

#5 -Know your fabrics

You can fake style, fabric you cannot. Cheap fabric is always obvious. Stay away from anything that’s more than 20 percent synthetic. Tweed, linen and cotton are materials that often seem more expensive.

#6 -Get it tailored

A cheap blazer from Zara can end up looking like a Stella McCartney with just a couple quick stitches. If the fit isn’t spot-on right off the rack, take those cheap clothes to a tailor before you take them home. It is absolutely worth it. Also the simpler the garment, the easier (and cheaper) it is to tailor.

#7 -Get it in black

Another way to make your clothes look more expensive is your choice of color. This little black dress  looks more expensive because of the fabric and color. Black is the perfect color to look slim but also hides other cheap-looking signs. A brand with amazing affordable yet expensive looking items is Supertrash

#8 – Get stains out as soon as you can

Treat a stain while it’s fresh. To avoid traditional stain removers (which can be harmful for both humans and clothing) try some alternatives like vinegar and baking soda.

#9 – Take care of your footwear

Treat your shoes every now and then with a major cleaning and replace the heels. Nothing is worse than worn or broken heels.

#10 – Invest in accessories

Fabulous sunglasses, a beautiful watch, designer bag or amazing shoes. These beauties will upgrade your outfit in a sec. It doesn’t have to be that expensive. On websites like The Outnet, Vestiaire Collective and Yoox you can find amazing affordable designer pieces

I love this! I completely agree with getting clothes in black and keeping embellishments to a minimum. I often pass on wearing jewelry as well for this reason.

The bag tip about having less hardware is so important! I followed that tip and it looks so much better.

I love these tips! I especially agree about the tailoring thing, though I haven’t personally tried it. A garment that looks like it’s made for you is a garment that looks expensive. And the button trick? So clever.

I think jewelry is the frosting on any outfit and defines your style. MOST ladies put too much on and it doesn’t mesh the outfit. you must look in the mirror at each piece of jewelry as you wear it. not earrings, necklace bracelets on each wrist plus heavy statement necklace with rings on both hands…..

  7. Fantastic ideas; I love the changing buttons one – so simple!
