We all know that we should make the most of our time after work, but we don’t necessarily do it. How many times have you come home only to sink into the couch and refuse to get up? But we all want to make the most of our time, so here are a few suggestions so you can feel amazing before you go to bed.

1.

Exercise to wind down

I have a serious love-hate relationship with exercise. Avoid the desire to vegetate on the couch because, trust me, hitting the gym or going for a gentle jog are fantastic ways to relieve the stress and tension that’s built up during the day. Exercise is proven to help you sleep soundly at night, too. So if you have problems sleeping you should definitely take note of our 7 minute HIIT routine.

2.

Reading to relax and learn

Getting lost in a good book will help you switch off and is an opportunity to learn! From discovering new ideas to gaining more skills or exploring imaginary lands in a fiction novel. Reading is a valuable way to end your day! We’re huge readers here at CGD and constantly come up with lists of groundbreaking books for you, so be sure to check them out.

3.

Socialize!

Don’t tell mom, but going out on a school night is actually a good thing! Go have dinner out or invite a friend over – you’ll find keeping an active social life will increase your work ethic and decrease stress!

4.

The 5-minute journal

Smythson Top Secret Notebook

Give yourself just 5 minutes to reflect on your day – what made you laugh, what you’re grateful for, what could’ve made it better. This simple technique will have a big impact on your self-improvement and your outlook on life, plus we all know that a simple notebook can make you more productive!

5.

Stay away from the time wasters

Goal Digger Journal

This one I find particularly hard. Without realizing it, I can spend an entire evening aimlessly surfing the Internet. Be strict with yourself and engage in more active pursuits to feel more energized to get stuff done.

6.

A clean space is a happy place

Aim to clean up just one thing a night! Load up the dishwasher or put away the clothes currently on your ‘floordrobe’, because waking up to a tidy environment is far better for your focus than the chaos of a messy room. If you need more tips on creating a happy home, we’ve got a complete guide for you!

7.

Relaxing is important too!

Find the time to truly unwind with something that works for you! Maybe do some meditation or run yourself a bath. Your brain and body will thank you for it later. We love creating at-home spa routines, read how right now!

8.

Do something for yourself

If your 9-5 job isn’t your passion in life, you need to keep doing the things you find just as rewarding as money, for your own happiness. Do some doodling or start that blog you’ve dreamt of doing, because ultimately, we are not put on this Earth to pay bills.

The time wasters are the tricky ones. There are days I feel so tired and want to chill, yet spend all evening on the sofa flicking between one social media app to the next on loop. But if I take the time to do a little yoga or have a bath and read I feel like I have done something positive.

I’ll admit, I’m definitely someone who sits on the couch scrolling through Tumblr for hours after a long day at work. But every now and then when I spend a night with friends instead, I realise just how relaxing, but also stimulating, it is.

Love this! My nights after work usually consist of working out and/or yoga, reading, and journaling. Sometimes I might pop on a tv show, but usually try to avoid it!
