Organizing your home can seem like a serious mission. It might as well take a small team to come in and de-clutter, but it doesn’t have to feel that way. If you plan your tidying right, it’ll take a few minutes every day and won’t even feel like a chore!
Make it less of a mission and try these genius hacks to tidy every single room of your house. Thank us later!
1. BEDROOM
Make the bed before you leave the house
Before work, after you’ve done your makeup and got dressed, make the last thing you do in the morning making your bed. When you get home, your bed will be ready-made and will help the bedroom look way more organized. It’s a habit to get into and one you can do while you’re packing up your bag or brushing your hair.
Dust and wipe each morning while you get ready
The key to organization is multi-tasking, so if you need to dust or wipe the surfaces do it while you’re getting ready. Setting up to apply your makeup, waiting for your hair straighteners to warm up or just getting your work clothes ready. All are a perfect time to grab a wipe and give it a quick clean.
Don’t dump items when you get home from work
When you get in, it’s tempting to dump everything wherever. Take two seconds to rehang what you’re changing out of or put it in a laundry bin. Out of sight out of mind really does work, sometimes. Also, find a designated spot for your work bag outside of the bedroom, so you can place it there every day and know you’ll find it in the morning.
2. OFFICE
Tidy your wires
Wires make an office space look less-organized. So when you sit down to do something at your desk, take two minutes to put the wires and cables you aren’t using into a box or tucked into a drawer. It’ll help you work more productively.
Find a home for electrical devices when you’re finished working
There are genius places to store devices, you can even buy a jewelry box that charges your devices these days, so you can just shut the lid and keep them all tidied away. Before you leave your desk, do a quick round up of all your devices and close them away.
Go through your papers on a Sunday morning
Sunday morning might be for resting, but to get the most out of Monday, it’s a good day to clear your brain and clear your desk. Go through the papers that have accumulated on your desk or your drawers while you have your morning cup of coffee for twenty minutes and set some aside to bin, shred or file. It’ll be therapeutic.
3. LIVING ROOM

Keep a basket for magazines and clutter
Invest in a wire basket, and throughout the week put your clutter in it whenever you notice it. On a Friday or Saturday when you have ten minutes, go through the basket and find a home for everything that’s accumulated throughout the week. Make sure your basket is empty by Monday morning and you’re good to go!
Wipe surfaces while you watch TV
When you’re kicking back watching TV, don’t go for your phone in the commercials, grab a surface wipe or cloth instead. You’ve got a couple of minutes to dust, wipe your coffee table and maybe even fluff your pillows before the TV comes back on. You won’t feel like you’re actually doing housework if you do it bit by bit.
4. BATHROOM

Clean your bath/shower while you’re there
After you shower or bath, clean it. I like to remove the ring from my bath bomb with a bar of soap while I’m still in the bath so I have left to do later. But when you’re out of the shower, keep some shower cleaner handy, spray your curtain or doors and give your bath or shower floor a quick scrub. Remove old shampoos and bath bottles and put them in the bin while you’re there.
Hang towels and robes
If you get into a habit of placing towels across a radiator and robes on the back of the door or in a particular place after you change and dress, you’ll always come to find them in the same place. Keep a clothes hamper in the bathroom too, so that when you kick off your clothes, you can put them straight in there.
Clean your surfaces and toilet while you cleanse your skin
Make a quick clean part of your night time routine too, this is how you clean the whole house without feeling seriously overwhelmed. While you cleanse, tone, and moisturize open your cabinets and make sure everything that’s in there is everything you need, if there are lots of lotions and potions piling up, find a home for them. Squirt some bleach into the toilet and wipe your surfaces while you cleanse your skin!
5. KITCHEN
Empty the dishwasher while you have breakfast
While you’re preparing your smoothie bowl or overnight oats, start emptying the dishwasher. If it’s empty before you leave the house, you’ll feel much better about coming home. Brew your coffee, poach your eggs, and start putting those mugs away.
Clean as you cook
One of the best habits to get into is cleaning while you cook. Waiting for a pot to boil? Do some washing up. Notice a spillage? Clean it up. Fill up the dishwasher as you go too so that the kitchen doesn’t look like a catastrophe after you’ve made dinner. It’s genius, but it’s something we all forget.
Divide food into zones
Non-perishables can go in glass canisters or cupboards, snacks and sweets can go in cookie jars, and if you divide your fridge into zones, everything will be much more organized. Put ready to eat foods in the upper shelves, raw ingredients in the lower ones, condiments and milk in the door, and vegetables in the lower drawers.
If you need extra room for raw meat, get a plastic container and put raw meat inside it on one of the shelves or empty a vegetable drawer, don’t mix them. You can even label your Fridge shelves so you always know what goes where.
