You don’t have time to do one hundred things in a checklist to improve your blog. We know that. Also, our best blogging advice would be just to go for it. With that in mind, I saw an article recently that made me stop in my tracks. It was written by Josh Spektor and it was about improving your writing.
A lightbulb went off in my head. Nobody has more than two minutes to improve things, and nobody needs them either. With that in mind, here are a few tips that will improve your blog so much.
I tell everyone this, but Grammarly seriously will improve your writing. It’s a spell-checker that learns with you and will pick up the most common mistakes you make. I use it to check around 40,000 words a month. Phwoar.
Use Hemingway Editor
Hemingway Editor analyzes your writing for long, boring sentences and redundant words. As long as your readability is good, people will enjoy reading what you write.
Create a Flickr Pool
Struggling to find good photographs to accompany your posts? Create a Flickr pool for submissions and stipulate what kind of photographs you’re looking for. Direct message your favorite photographers asking them if you can use their work alongside your posts and eventually the word will spread.
Check your sentences
Going back to Josh’s original article, make sure your sentences are short and snappy and that you aren’t using jargon. Using your favorite long words is great, but the problem is your readers might not understand you.
What do you think of these quick changes? Easy tweaks or too much hassle?
