We get it. Your heart says 2015 was a good year and you wish it wouldn’t end; your head says it’s time to move on and 2016 will be even better. Right? Alternatively, this first sentence was a complete joke and you can’t wait for a new year, new you and the new opportunities that await you in 2016. Because 2015 was just crap. Well then, the year is coming to a close and we will soon ponder over the “did” and “did not do’s” of the year. But fret not, 2016 will be full of new beginnings and we will happily bid adieu to the precursor of the career girl’s plan, 2015. Yep, we are saying it, “2016 is the year of the career girl” and we want you to know why.
You could be president one day
This would have never been a thought many moons ago. If you have seen the movie Suffragette or are familiar with the Women’s rights struggles, you know that the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote, passed through Congress less than 100 years ago. Sounds like a long time, but consider how long men have been able to pass on their voting rights. Therefore, women candidates for President (no matter your political views), Woo hoo! This means so much is possible for women today, therefore step out on that scary pavement and make some sharp strides this year.
You can now be the person you have aspired to be
So you were planning to be the most awesome career girl in 2015, but it just didn’t work as planned. Never fear, there is no better time than the present. The world is more open to women leaders, new professions, cultures, style personalities and to you, whoever you may be, So stop planning and do things that scare you, on a regular basis. Take a class, ask for a promotion, go back to school, start a blog, apply for that job you thought you wouldn’t qualify for and make 2016 work for you.
Someone is getting the job so why not you? Be your own cheerleader
I read a story about a supermodel who was flown to a different country for a designer for casting calls. When she arrived she looked different than her photos (must have been those dang filters). So he refused to send her out on any castings upon arrival. She said, in devastation, what came to her mind was, “Someone is getting the job why not me”. Therefore she insisted that she be sent out on calls. Subsequently, she was sent out and not only got one job but two. This year, be your own cheerleader and stand firm in your career choice. No one said the journey would be easy, but it can be fruitful if you don’t give up.
Your confidence will pay off
So get a new career girl hairdo or wardrobe makeover. When you feel fabulous inside, your confidence will be visible for all to see. You will be amazed at the kind gestures, rewards and opportunities that just happen to come your way this year.
When someone believes in you, believe that belief
Often people tell us we are talented, we are brilliant and we missed our calling. Well that may be true. When looking from the outside in, people don’t see our fears of failure and the anxieties that we feel. When they see us they see unlimited possibilities. This year believe them and expand upon it, if it is truly something you already knew for yourself but chose not to move forward in it. This year, believe in yourself as much as others believe in you.
Cheers to a great year, Career Girl. You deserve it!
