3 Reasons You’re Not Achieving Your Goals

Are you stuck in a rut? Can’t figure out why you’re struggling to get things done? Feeling a bit like a hamster on a wheel – hustling and bustling like mad, but not getting any further along? I know exactly how you feel, so don’t worry. Get back on track with your goals by recognizing where you’re going wrong. Turn your downfall into a success! Here are three reasons you might not be achieving your goals…

1. You don’t have a plan

The first thing I did that helped me achieve my goals was to get it down on paper. I’m not saying that every plan has to be followed to the letter, but not having a plan in the first place is a dangerous way to start. Decide exactly where you want to be, at what time, and develop a timeline of steps.

You might not even know what those steps are, so do your research so you know where you want to be. Research how women in your field climbed to success. Want to know how to make money from your blog? Then read The Ultimate Blog Plan. Listen to interviews with your heroes to see if they have any advice. Write it all down, and figure out the answer to what, when and how you’re going to achieve your goals.

2. You aren’t past the planning stage

Stop me when this sounds familiar, so you start with ‘I’m going to get to work’, you grab a coffee, choose your ‘serious’ playlist, make a to-do list, sit at your laptop, and think ‘phew. That was a lot of work. I should take a break…’

I sympathize with the situation, don’t get me wrong (to-do lists don’t make themselves, after all). But in truth, in this scenario, you’re taking a break without actually having started any work in the first place. Inspiration is great, but you can’t wait for it to come to you. You need to act, whether you’re feeling motivated or not. Stop wanting and wishing, and put in the hours!

3. You don’t believe in yourself

This is a big one for some dreamers; do you actually believe you’re going to be successful? Can you see yourself amongst those you admire, rubbing shoulders with the ranks of people you aspire to be like? Can you picture yourself in a big office (if that’s your dream) or does some part of you think that the best you’ll ever do is a corner cubicle?

Part of this is being confident, (which we know is easier said than done!). But there’s a much bigger part of it — do you believe you’re worthy of all the success you want? Do you believe you’re going to get everything you want, through hard work and determination? If not, this is going to be your biggest roadblock. No one is going to believe you can do it if you don’t believe it first! You have to believe in yourself because that’s the only thing that will take you to the next level. No one is going to do it for you! You’re talented, believe in that!

Everything on this list is so true! My downfall is definitely the planning. It’s so weird that I know what is standing in my way, yet I still haven’t fixed the problem?? I definitely need to sit down and get to work! Thanks for the inspiration!

I’m a big believer of planning and it’s absolutely important. Notepads, pens and mental notes can’t be over emphasized.

Plans are good, but I also think it’s important to understand that detours don’t mean that you’ve ‘failed’ or that your plan is a flop. When your gut tells your to take a different route, follow your instinct and it may lead to something incredible!

Just discovered your blog today! If this isn’t ever me, wow! Downloaded Cold Turkey today to block all my online distractions (giving myself breaks every 90 min) so that after AM coffee I’m not off fashion browsing. Thanks for the great post! Looking forward to exploring the site.
