3 SIMPLE Things You Should Do To Make Your CV Stand Out

Did you know the average recruiter spends only 15 seconds on your cv? It’s important that your cv stands out. Here are some tips to help your cv be the chosen one.

1. Tailor your cv
One size does not fit all so it is important to tailor your cv to fit the job you’re applying for. It is suggested that you have many different versions of your cv to match different companies and positions. After all, each company has certain criteria they are looking for!

Read the job description and identify key words or skills. Then find ways to incorporate these words or skills into your cv. Adapt your personal statement to directly align with the position by mentioning both the industry and job title you are interested in. Be selective about which details you include about your experiences. Ask yourself, “How will these details support my application and what is the recruiter looking for?”

2.Do research
There are tons of career resources out there, so take advantage of them! Do your research before applying to a job and identify key skills or experiences that help you stand out. Reach out to contacts in your social network who may work in the field or even work for the company you are interested in applying to, and ask for their insight on what the company looks for. After gathering this information, be sure to update your cv.

3. Be fast
If you meet a recruiter at an event or find a job online, it’s important to follow up as soon as possible with your cv. This means sending a follow up email directly after the event. You want the recruiter to remember you and put a face with your cv.

  1. And if I may add (as HRM) check your letter and CV before you send. I get so much letters with the wrong company name in it or the wrong job title (because people keep using the same letter but apparently forget to adjust). It is an absolute NO-go for me if I get that in front of me :)

  2. Thanks for the tips. I was kinda lazy with writing my CV but now I’m going to make my CV the one that stands out.
