Always be involved

One thing she keeps repeatedly saying is ”listen” and “ask questions, don’t make assumptions,” a piece of advice from her father. “Questions start conversations, stimulate thinking, break down barriers, create positive energy and show your willingness to understand and learn,” she says. She also keeps hammering on how important genuine interest in the personal life of colleagues is.

Trust your instincts

Trusting your instincts, staying true to yourself and being aware of how others perceive you, are really important according to the former CEO of Burberry. She quotes Maya Angelou: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Sacrifice Today, Succeed Tomorrow

Probably one of the most powerful sentences to hear when you are having a down day or when you are close to giving up. Your hard work and persistence will eventually pay off if you keep your focus on your goals and your eyes on the prize.

Angela had 80-hour working weeks because she wanted to get a foot into the door of the New York Fashion scene and if she had given up back then, she never would have been where she is now.

She sacrificed a lot during her journey to be where she is right now. It was not always easy or fun, but she did it because she knew what her goal was and she succeeded probably even more than she could have ever imagined.
