If there is one person in this world who proved that no matter how bad your situation is, with the right attitude you will be able to turn it all around, it will be J.K. Rowling. The English writer was penniless when she moved back to England after divorcing her former Portuguese husband and describes this period as ‘rock bottom’.

She decided to finally finish her Harry Potter books and send them to agents and publishers. Although she was turned down by few and told ‘not to quit her day-job’ this decision is probably the best she ever made. Nowadays Rowling belongs to Britain’s wealthiest women, is even richer than the Queen and is highly involved in charity work. She tries to inspire and motivate her fans whenever she can, the most well-known example possibly will be how she motivated and ‘counseled’ Evanna Lynch during her recovery from anorexia.

Joanne often speaks up to ‘haters’ on Twitter in the most epic ways. Just last week, during Wimbledon, she proved that she was not okay with a man saying that her friend Serena Williams only won because she is built like a man. It is just those small things that J.K. Rowling does, that make her such an inspiring and motivational person.

During interviews, she gives the most inspiring and motivational life lessons from which we all could learn. We picked our favorites and give you 4 important life lessons we learned from J.K. Rowling:

#1 – MAKE THE BEST OF EVERY SITUATION

”Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. I had failed on an epic scale. An exceptionally short lived marriage had imploded and I was a jobless alone parent and as poor as it was possible to be in Britain without being homeless.”

Whatever your rock bottom is, you will be able to turn it all around! No matter what you have done or what your are going through, it is never too late to pursue your dream and absolutely go for it!

#2 – TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

“There is an expiry date on blaming your parents for steering you in the wrong direction; the moment you are old enough to take the wheel, responsibility lies with you.

Sometimes it is hard to admit that no matter what someone did to you or what your background is, there comes a time that you can hold no one else responsible for outcomes but yourself.

#3 – YOU ARE MORE THAN THE THINGS YOU DID OR DID NOT DO

“Your qualifications are not your life.”

No matter how many degrees you have, or how many studies you did not finish, your qualifications (and grades) are not you or your life! It is good if you are well-educated, but don’t let it define you or how you treat the people around you. Success is, luckily,  not measured by the amount of qualifications you have.

#4 – IT IS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE

”Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than I was and began diverting all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me.”

Focus on things that are important to you and be yourself.

  1. Totally agree with all of these! One that I really need to work on is making the best of every situation. Not everything is going to happen exactly how and when I want it. I know what I need to work on being patient and making the best of the situation that is today. I believe this also feeds into attitude. It’s definitely true that a lot of things that happen can be viewed as either positive or negative, and it all comes down to attitude.

  5. I’ve always been about having a positive attitude. Make the best of every situation no matter how shitty. Always look at the good points, never pin point the negatives. I’ve grown up a lot with people who are purely negative and I’ve made it my life’s mission to be the positive spirit wherever I am!

JKR is such a great inspiration of determination. Love this post!

  7. Number 3 touched my heart because I’ve always been passionate about fashion and beauty. I love blogging but my family is very old-fashionable so I had to enroll in university and start a course.
One day I just got the courage to quit my Psychology course and pursue my passion, without a university degree! :)
