The best trip ever can be a road trip to see your family, or a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Bali. It can be so many different things, and to be honest, it’s all in the planning. If you’re going away in the next month, it’s time to think about whether it’s going to be the best trip ever or just another trip to share on Instagram.
Good planning can be the difference between an average trip where you stumble upon some good and bad things along the way, and an amazing trip where everything you do and see is incredible and you can’t wait to recommend it to every single person you see. We’re in the age of the internet, so there’s no better time to get cracking on planning ahead. Here are a few tips you might not have considered to make any trip you’re planning the best damn trip of your life.
1. Make a vision board
Pinterest can help you visualize where you want to go. There are so many itineraries that you can find on Pinterest. Start pinning images of the places you want to go, and things that will help you create your itinerary.
Pin experiences that you might not have considered at first, little-known tips and tricks, and images that help you visualize the place you want to go. You can’t plan your perfect trip until you’ve done your research, so start with the visuals and go from there.
2. Plot your own map
Make that itinerary count, and use My Travel Map to plot your own travel journey and all the highlights you want to see. This makes it infinitely more real when you can actually see the journey you’re taking and pinpoint all the highlights you actually want to stop and see.
There’s something so real about seeing your journey, you can also edit it to reflect the transport that you’re taking so the legend will reflect the car, plane, bus, or train, depending on what route you decide to take – and you can edit it so that it follows roads, instead of draws a straight line between locations. You can share this map with your friends and family too, so they can see your dream trip and all the things you want to do.
3. Get some FOMO
There’s nothing like a bit of FOMO to kick you into gear. Get on Instagram and start stalking hashtags related to the place you want to go to. You’ll see other bloggers, influencers, and travelers on their journey and get a huge amount of tips of places to see, people to meet, things to do, restaurants to eat in and even photo opportunities you need to take. You can even watch the Instagram stories section of the hashtag to see what other travelers are doing, how the place looks, and where you should go.
This is also a great way to double-check that where you’re planning to stay is in a tourist-friendly area, and somewhere that many other people have gone before.
4. Stalk the locals
Ok, you don’t want to really stalk anyone, but while you’re on social media looking at hashtags, if you come across any local posts or find something useful on a hashtag like #localtips, you can do a little bit of stalking on that person’s Instagram to find out what else they do. After all, they live in the area, and they know the best places from trying them. You can also find tips from locals on YouTube, and actually, watch videos to put the place in context and see where you’ll be going.
