Choose your word
Start off by thinking of a word for the year. It’s a simple exercise but it can help you root your efforts in a theme. For example, in 2015 I chose the word ‘fearless’ which helped empower me to meet up with the CGD team (before it really was a team) and get to where I am today. That word powered me through solo trips, uncomfortable conversations, and so much more.
Have you noticed that something is lacking in your 2019? Would you like to be powered up by a theme in 2020 – maybe ambitious, or fearless, or confident? All you need to do is repeat that word whenever you find yourself shirking away from the feeling. It helps! Need some help creating a plan for your life? This is how to create a vision board to help you go after the kind of year you actually want.
Set an emotional or mental goal
Emotional development is so important, if you want to be successful you need to continuously improve yourself. So set a goal for yourself that is rooted in emotion. Maybe you want to work on your communication skills, or pursue relationships, or learn to deal with stress.
There are so many ways you can improve your mental health. And you can use a 2020 planner like the 2019 – 2020 Goals Diary to actually achieve that, to keep yourself on track and see how you’re improving in so many little ways. All you need to do is set a goal at the start of the month and track your progress towards it, you can use the weekly overviews to theme your time for any goal you set yourself.
Get physical
You can always improve, always. So if you feel like 2019 was your fittest year, is there a physical goal you can set yourself for 2020? Running a marathon, for example? Use your 2020 planner to schedule in goals like this, it’s not always about the big resolutions, it’s actually more about life-improving goals that you can build into habits.
If you’re not feeling it, how about just getting (and staying) in shape? Working out at least once a week and building that up? Start small and build it into your life already. Working out will help you deal with stress, think about things in a different way and get ahead.
There’s a reason why the most successful women work out, so see it as an investment in yourself that you have to make if you want to get ahead.
