4 Tricks For Eating Healthy And Still Having Fun

This time of year is not the time for being healthy. I mean, traditional we all know it’s about blowing everything you know out of the water and enjoying life. But, we think you can still enjoy life and go all out while being a little bit healthy and keeping some good habits. We’re even trying the pre-Christmas detox this year!

So, if you want to have fun while being healthy – try these tips!

Figure out if you want to moderate, or abstain.

Some people find that it’s easier to say no to everything (“I’m not going to have any cookies tonight”) while others find that moderation works better for them (“I’m only going to have 2 cookies tonight”). Figure out what works better for you in order to have a better chance of success, so that you won’t say “Ah screw it” and end up eating 100.

Don’t talk about how you’re limiting yourself.

Research shows that sometimes stating a goal can give us a wave of satisfaction akin to achieving the goal (and this is sometimes why goals go abandoned – if you already feel like you’ve achieved it, what’s the point?). Also, in my personal experience, sometimes people who are indulging take on the role of “convincer” – “Go on, have one! It’s the holidays, you deserve it,” and this can make it even harder to stay healthy.

Eat beforehand.

By having a healthy snack prior to going to an event can make resisting temptation so much easier…especially when they’re healthy veggies or fruit, as opposed to the sweet and salty treats usually found at Christmas parties. Drink plenty of water so that you don’t mistake thirst for hunger!

Offer to bring something delicious and healthy.

If you friend is hosting a holiday party, why not help her out by offering to bring a plate of munchies? Whether it’s veggies and dip or a fruit plate, it’s a nice thing to do for a friend—and a relief knowing that there will be food there that you want to eat! Also, remember that healthy food doesn’t have to be boring. We’re dreaming about the cauliflower burger recipe we featured a few weeks ago.

Really good tips – I’m all about the first one, in that I set myself hard and soft limits on things (vegetarian through and through, avoid dairy where possible…) It really helps to know my own goals before heading out to events!
