Who doesn’t love Sarah Jessica Parker! She gave us one of our favorite series and is one of the most inspiring style icons of our time.
This successful Career Woman turned 50 this year and she can teach us way more than fashion tips! Besides having her own shoe line, she is also very active in charity. She teamed up with Michelle Obama and Kerry Washington to support the veterans in the United States.
So, what else can we learn from this Power Woman? Here are 4 life valuable life lesson from Sarah Jessica Parker:
#1 – Take Risks
When SJP signed for Sex & the City, HBO was not as big and powerful as we know it today. It was nothing more than a cable channel that played some movies and the script was kind off risque and new for TV.
The pilot went well, but when they told her that they wanted to film the rest of the season, she suddenly had second thoughts: “I hatched this plan to offer myself to HBO and say, ‘You can have me for six years, and I can do a movie or work in an office, but I don’t want to be committed to the show.’ I felt like it was not the right fit.”
After filming two more episodes, taking this risk really paid off and she knew that she wouldn’t regret the moments she spent on it.
#2 – Always be nice
SJP is one of 7 children and was raised in a very polite way, that she never let go of when she became hot and happening in Hollywood.
“She has a fan base in the fashion world that’s extraordinary, and it’s truly because she’s such a nice person,” says George Malkemus, president of Manolo Blahnik and who teamed up wth her for her shoe line. “Were it anyone but Sarah Jessica, I wouldn’t have done it,” Malkemus says.
#3 – Be diverse
There is almost nothing she didn’t do! SJP is a producer but also has worked in fashion and beauty for years and, as mentioned before, she is also giving back to the world through the charity work that she does. In 2011, she was one of the highest-paid actresses and her perfume line is also a top seller.
In 2014, she launched her shoe line SJP and luckily for us, she knows that not every woman has the same budget as she does and she wanted the shoes to be affordable.
“Those are hard-earned bucks so I really tried to give women beautiful silhouettes and colors and excellent quality for their money. I didn’t want to do anything that says, ‘Oh, these shoes are 2014.’ I want my shoes to be a part of the world for a long time to come,” – Sarah Jessica Parker
#4 – Always be honest and keep your principles
She started as an actress and later became a producer, but always was clear and honest about certain things. SJP was the only actress in SATC with a no-nudity clause in her contract and in an interview from 1997, she said “If something is really vulgar, I have conversations with the writers where I say I’m not comfortable with that. It doesn’t mean they’ll make the change, but we do discuss it.”
In an interview with Redbook a couple of years ago, she said: “I’m slightly allergic to the phrase having it all, because it suggests an indulgence I don’t really identify with. The idea of having a full life resonates with me more, because it’s what I aim for. I’m a mother first and foremost, and the work that I do outside the home can only happen if I know all is well inside my home.”
