French girl beauty and fashion is notoriously chic. We all want to know the cool French girl’s secrets to clear skin and beautifully subtle makeup. We’ve chronicled Korean beauty secrets, so you know how to get glowing, blurry skin but now let’s nail the understated, flawless French look! I did the hard work for you and had a chat with a cool French girl about her flawless beauty routine and the products she can’t live without.

1. Micellar Lotion

“It’s not like French girls have a lesson at school that teaches them how to look after their skin, they just want to. It’s very rare that you’ll find a girl in France who wears too much makeup – she’d prefer to let her skin speak for itself and look healthy. I use Embryolisse Lotion Micellaire to take off my makeup, I want something that is low effort but gives great results. This is gentle and doesn’t require any rinsing.”

2. Beauty oil

“We look for products that do multiple jobs, it’s something that we’ve seen our mothers and our grandmothers do, and we really appreciate French brands, too. You can use all the makeup in the world but underneath it all you know you have unhealthy skin, so try to encourage healthy habits. My secret for replenishing damage is Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. Beauty oil is absolutely a staple of my makeup bag, I just think it’s a wonder product.”

3. A red lipstick

“You are unlikely to see us wearing heavy false lashes or fake tan, but we do like to pair a plain, dewy face with a bold lip. If you use a beauty oil you should already have a dewy glow, so all you have to do is groom your brows and add a small lick of eyeliner. Our beauty looks take as little time as possible, because we prefer to go to social venues that don’t require us to look incredibly overdone. My perfect red would be Delilah Colour Intense Creme Liquid in Vintage. It’s kind of velvety and hydrating but a classic color.”

Still looking for that perfect Parisian red? Don’t worry – we’ve got a guide to what will suit you!

4. Emergency lip balm

“You won’t find eyelash glue or false nails in a French girl’s clutch bag, not because we don’t use them, but because we prefer to go to bars and get the subtle and natural look. What you probably would find on a night out is a pot of something like Nuxe Reve de Miel Baume Ultra-Nourrissant. Drinking and talking dries out your lips and it’s actually better to use a clear balm if you are slightly drunk than a dark lipstick – nobody wants red smudges on their face.”

There’s a reason most French brands are cult brands, this balm sells phenomenally (one every 28 seconds!) so grab it before it’s gone!

5. CC cream

“High coverage foundation is great, but for that no-maintenance look it has got to be Darphin’s Multi-Benefit CC Cream. If you look at a French girl on the street it’s hard to tell if they’re even wearing foundation. We like our skin to breathe, so we use products that enhance what we already have.”

It’s so true that the french prefer to show their more natural side rather than wear a lot of makeup. Beauty oil is EVERY WHERE over here!

My like and respect goes to red lipstick and CC cream! I think that these trendy things are the must have for every girls, not just citizens of France. Even if you are in rush and you absolutely do not have time to apply make up, it will save your image if you have these several important things in your bag.
