There seem to be more and more opportunities to lead in the workplace for younger people. But the amount of advice on leadership skills can become overwhelming! So we’ve compiled a list of our favorite books to help you become a better manager and leader.

Daring Greatly by Brené Brown

1Her TED talk on shame inspired millions. And Brené Brown’s book is so inspiring too, reminding us that vulnerability doesn’t have to be a weakness. This book will teach you to embrace your vulnerabilities and fears and use them to inspire you to be more daring as a leader!

7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey1-4

This classic from 1989 will give you a step-by-step guide towards being more effective in attaining your goals. It sets itself apart from most leadership advice books because Covey stresses the importance of connecting your work ambitions to strong principles and character ethics.

How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

1-3Another classic, this book is essential because being liked and influencing others is a necessary part of being a leader! In the introduction, it promises to inspire you towards new goals and ambitions, and then show you how to best achieve those by increasing your likability, popularity, and general people skills.

Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

1-1

After decades of research, Kahneman produced this book that walks you through the two primary ways our minds work: fast (instinctive and emotional) and slow (calculated and rational). It’s perfect for noticing the way we make decisions and slowing down that process, which is essential for a good leader.

High Output Management by Andrew Gove

1-2

This is another classic, by the former chairman and CEO of Intel. This book will lead you through the fundamentals of building and managing a company. Its practical advice is also useful even outside owning your own company! The target audience is quoted as being “anyone whose job entails getting a group of people to produce something of value”.
