5 Easy Ways to Hide Your Hangover With Makeup

largeEver had a few too many drinks the night before, and an early start the next day? We’ve all been there; the dreaded hangover can happen to the best of us, but there’s no need to let signs of happy hour the night before still show on your face the next morning. You may need to head into the office for an important meeting, or meet your family for brunch, so may not be keen on looking a little bit worse for wear. Don’t worry, we’ve got 5 simple tips to help keep the night before under wraps the next morning.

#1 Cleanse skin

After getting in late last night, there’s a pretty good chance you didn’t have the energy to complete the wash, tone and moisturise routine with as much vigour as usual. So the next morning, the most important step is to remove any trace of makeup from last night and refresh your skin with a deep cleanser. Try Origins A Perfect World Cleanser, as the white tea scent makes it refreshing on the skin whilst the detoxifying element will clear any grime and dirt, leaving you with super clean skin.

Then, after cleansing use the Rodial Super Acids X-treme Hangover Mask, to deeply cleanse, exfoliate and restore a healthy looking complexion. Pronalen fruit acids gently exfoliate whilst age-defying laracare and argireline hexapeptide minimise the appearance of fine lines. Within minutes, your skin will transform from dull and lifeless to healthy and glowing, making this an essential step in your routine to hide that hangover.

#2 Use a glowing base product

If there was ever a day to avoid a powder based foundation, then it’s today. Your skin will be dehydrated from the night before and is crying out for moisture, so it’s best to use a radiance enhancing primer or a hydrating tinted moisturiser as your base.

Try Too Faced’s Hangover Replenishing Face Primer to hydrate dull skin, whilst smoothing out imperfections and instantly brightening your complexion. Or for a hydrating tinted moisturiser try BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. The pigments within this gel formulation are covered in lauroyl lysine, an amino acid derived from coconuts, which means that the pigments will leave the skin feeling soft and silky instead of drying out your skin. As well as containing moisturising ingredients, the light gel evens out skin tone and minimises redness, which means that signs of your hangover will be kept at bay.

#3 Highlight for a gorgeous glow

Hangovers can make you look tired and dull, which is why you’ll want to use a high-end quality concealer to cheat your way to a dewy glow. You can’t go wrong with a highlighting concealer, such as Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat which brightens dark, purple based under eye circles.

When used correctly, a great highlighter can perk up your complexion whilst accentuating the features you love. The best areas to apply highlighter are on the brow bone, along the tops of your cheekbones, down the centre of your nose and above your cupid’s bow to create the illusion of a fuller pout.

Joanna Schlip, top celebrity makeup artist describes highlighter as “the secret weapon for a youthful, healthy glow” so to make your skin glow try Nars Illuminator in Copacabana. This illuminator glides onto the skin to refresh and enhance the complexion with shimmering incandescence. For a powder based highlighter, try Chanel’s Lumière D’Été Illuminating Powder. This limited edition highlighter’s golden hue adds warmth to the skin, leaving your skin with an instant glow and sun-kissed radiance.

#4 Open your eyes

The worst part of a hangover is being, and looking tired. To brighten up your eyes, use a nude eyeliner in your lower waterline which will make your eyes look bigger, brighter and more awake; Chanel’s Le Crayon Kohl in 69 Clair is the perfect nude for your waterline as it blends in seamlessly with your eye whilst making them appear bigger at the same time.

Adding plenty of mascara is another must, as the all-important flick of mascara frames your face, pulling together your whole look in a few simple brush strokes. Try Lancome Defincils High Definition Mascara for volume and length as select polymers coat each tip, helping to lengthen and outline lashes in every stroke.

#5 Brighten with a pop of colour

To brighten your entire face and erase any trace of your hangover, finish the look with a bright lipstick or gloss. If you are feeling tired from the hangover, then it’s probably best to stick to glossy formulas as these will brighten the face and give you more of a glow.

For a lustrous lipgloss, try Nars Lip Gloss in Tasmania for the perfect peachy, pink shade. The formula is moisturising, non-sticky and lasts for a long time, making it ideal if you are heading out of the house in a rush.

If you want a brighter shade, then Dolce & Gabbana Passion Duo Gloss Fusion Lipstick in Tropical is one you need to try. The lipstick is super pigmented with a glossy shine, leaving you with a bright, standout colour whilst moisturising the lips at the same time.
