The 5-Minute Shower Routine That Will Fix Split Ends

When I’m having a good hair day, I feel on top of the world. I swish my hair in the wind, and know that I’ve done my best. Usually, I have to get up extra early to make sure my hair is behaving (I’m sure you know the feeling!) but recently, I’ve discovered a five-minute shower routine that fixes split ends, brightens dull hair, and only needs a blow dry and a comb to get it to look super shiny, glossy, and healthy!

1. I invested in a mask

OUAI Treatment Masque ($32) available here.

I always thought I didn’t need a hair mask, my hair isn’t over dyed or dehydrated, just normal with a few split ends, but I saw this treatment masque and decided to give it a go! Thank goodness I tried it. I basically smooth it through my hair about five minutes before I get into the shower. When I get out, my hair is like strands of silk.

2. Fix your habits

There are some showering habits that actually damage your hair. I mean, we all know this right, but how many of us actually take care to be kind to our hair in the shower? Firstly, make sure the water is warm or cool instead of burning hot. Once I made the switch to colder water my hair seemed thicker and easier to manage, even though I complained a bit during the actual shower. Secondly, I’m really careful to only shampoo my scalp and only condition the ends. I don’t want my scalp to be conditioned, and I don’t want my ends to be stressed or cleansed, just softer.

3. Leave it in

Drybar Mr. Incredible The Ultimate Leave-In Conditioner ($26) available here.

So I’m old school, when I’m out of the shower I spritz my hair with an extra dose of leave in conditioner. You don’t want your hair to lose its conditioning properties when you leave the shower, you only want the moisture to increase and be locked in. Leave in conditioners are good for just that. But when you get a leave-in conditioner designed to help you with split ends, then it’s even better. Mr. Incredible also contains biotin, which as you know by now will take care of those split ends for you.

5. The only oil

Moroccan Oil Treatment ($14-$44) available here.

I think we can all agree that if you suffer from dry ends, you’re a sufferer from dry hair in general. That’s one of my biggest problems, which isn’t great if you want long, luscious hair. But if there is one thing that saved my life, it’s Moroccan Oil. Because it uses oil to repair the hair, it also has the double effect of returning moisture to hair and making it bounce, and shine again!
