Summer may be well and truly upon us, but does that mean our movie consumption has to go down just because the sun’s come out?

Whether you’re jetting abroad or saving pennies with a staycation, we’ve rounded up our top four sizzling summer movies to get you in the mood for a red hot holiday.

Dirty Dancing

Who didn’t wish “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” was the soundtrack to their summer? The romance of Johnny and Baby is something one never grows out of dreaming of… plus, that dreamy lift in the lake is totally unforgettable.

Mamma Mia!

A sun bleached Greek island, classic ABBA tunes and a topless Dominic Cooper make for an irresistible so-good-it’s-bad summer cheese fest. Try not to boogie when “Dancing Queen” comes on – we dare you!

Eat, Pray, Love

Based on a true story, (the true story of our Managing Editor’s idol at that) Eat, Pray, Love leaves us wondering if we, too, could travel the world and find ourselves. Regardless of whether this is a personal possibility or not- Liz’s soul searching and, at times, desperation, is really raw and recognizable. So is her eternal sentiment: “I’m in love, I’m having a relationship with my pizza”- no truer words were ever spoken.

Sex and the City the movie 

Mexico. The first movie. Need we say more? Poolside, cocktails. OMG moments. This is everything you loved about the TV show just in a much sunnier location. Especially as the girls take the honeymoon that Big and Carrie booked (after he jilted her at the altar!). Anyone up for a Mexican girl’s break?

 

Forgetting Sarah Marshall 

One of our faves. Starring Mila Kunis and Jason Seagal, this is a holiday movie that also deals with the issue of seeing your ex with a new person. For Jason’s character Peter, escaping to Hawaii didn’t really help him get over his ex. Especially as she’s in the room next to him…
