Sometimes we need a little motivation to remind us that hard work goes a long way. Most of the rich, powerful women you know and love didn’t start off that way, but sometimes it’s nice to see that successful women can make it by themselves. Here are five powerful wealthy women who did it all by themselves!

Stanford dropout Elizabeth Holmes is the world’s youngest female billionaire. She is the CEO of Theranos, a blood testing company that she founded in 2003 at just 19. Now she has an estimated net worth of $4.6 billion.

With just $63,000 to open their first store (selling jeans and music) the Gap grew and now operates about 3,300 stores under brands such as Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta. The company has $16.4 billion net sales and Doris now has an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion.

You might have even been to one of their stores, as they’re now known as Forever 21 and rack up an estimated $4.4 billion in sales from more than 680 stores. Jin Sook is the chief merchandising officer and has an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion.
