Stanford dropout Elizabeth Holmes is the world’s youngest female billionaire. She is the CEO of Theranos, a blood testing company that she founded in 2003 at just 19. She proposed the idea for her company to her Professor while she was a sophomore at Stanford University and used money that her parents had put aside for her education to establish that business from a basement in a group college house. Now she has an estimated net worth of $4.6 billion.
#2 Diane Hendricks
Diane Hendricks is the owner and chairman of ABC Supply, a wholesale distributor of building materials that she co-founded in 1982 with her husband Kenneth Hendricks. After her husband sadly died in 2007, Diane bought one of her largest competitors and as of 2014 sales are estimated at $4.8 billion. She has an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion.
#3 Doris Fisher
Doris Fisher co-founded the Gap, with her husband Donald in 1969 after the couple couldn’t find a pair of jeans that fit him. With just $63,000 to open their first store (selling jeans and music) the Gap grew and now operates about 3,300 stores under brands such as Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta. The company has $16.4 billion net sales and Doris now has an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion.
#4 Jin Sook Chang
Jin Sook Chang moved to America from South Korea in 1981 and had to work odd jobs to make ends meet. But Jin Sook had an idea, and three years later her and her husband opened up their first clothing store, Fashion 21. You might have even been to one of their stores, as they’re now known as Forever 21 and rack up an estimated $4.4 billion in sales from more than 680 stores. Jin Sook is the chief merchandising officer and has an estimated net worth of $3.1 billion.
#5 Oprah Winfrey
We all know Oprah Winfrey, as the queen of chat shows, Oprah launched her own cable network, OWN, which has had astounding success. Oprah was born into poverty but always loved the stage and media, and started off with humble beginnings on a small chat show, she’s come such a long way from that girl and now has an estimated net worth of $3 billion.
