We can do our best to react with positivity when things get tough. Now, I want to be clear that I don’t mean you should ignore your negative feelings entirely, I just want to suggest that they should be dealt with properly and they should not be invited to stick around longer than necessary.
As someone who has dealt with depression on and off for most of my life, I should be really good at this. But I’ll let you in on a little secret: I still have my bad days, but I have learned that more than anything it takes practice and that it is also worth the effort. This is why it is important to stay positive.
Positivity attracts other positive people and situations.
If you are open and try your best to look on the bright side, people will enjoy your company. You will make more friends, which can lead the way to more opportunities in life. You will also be ready when new situations present themselves, whereas if you are letting yourself dwell in the negative you might reject something that could change your life for the better. Be open and look at the good.
‘If you give it a try I’m sure it will do the same for you.’
You will be healthier.
This is because when you are positive your stress levels are usually reduced. Therefore, If you are looking at the good things in your life and allowing yourself to be grateful for them you won’t be able to be as stressed about the negative things going on. I mean, who is stressed when they are focusing on what they do have and appreciate? Not me. It only makes my heart warm, which I rather enjoy, and if you give it a try I’m sure it will do the same for you.
Your relationships will be stronger.
Healthy relationships lead to more happiness and take it from me – a negative mindset can have a heavy toll on a relationship. That doesn’t mean that you can’t rely on the people you love when you need to it just means, again, don’t let negativity dwell where it is not necessary. Try your best to have a positive outlook and people will enjoy being around you more. Like I said before positivity draws people in.
‘Why not choose confidence when you have the choice?’
You will be more confident.
I can only speak for myself here, but I doubt it is much different for all of you. Negativity breeds self-doubt. When I let myself think negatively, I don’t want to put myself out there—for anything. On the other hand, positivity breeds confidence. So, why not choose confidence when you have the choice?
Last of all, It doesn’t hurt to try. You have nothing to lose. So, give it a try. Start with just sitting down and thinking about the things you are thankful for. Next, try smiling, even for just a few seconds. Maybe even run through the good things that can come from a situation. In most cases, there is at least one. Just start there and do your best, like I said it takes practice sometimes and some situations will take more effort than others, but it is definitely worth it!
