6 Steps For Getting What You Want Out Of Life

 

You’ve probably started this year off on the right track. Maybe you’ve even made some huge changes towards getting what you want, but it’s important not to fall off track. Getting what you want out of life starts with building the life of your dreams and working for it every single day.

Even if it’s just an idea in your head, goals that seem impossible to achieve or something you never thought possible, you can achieve it. You need to stay inspired, empowered, and believing in yourself. Don’t worry, here are six steps for making it all happen…
 

1. Learn something new every day

I’ve started writing a daily journal, complete with ten new things I’ve learned. Whether it’s a fact I didn’t know or a skill I never thought I could pick up. It really keeps me motivated and gives me something to look back on.

2. Set deadlines

Put your ambitions into perspective, promotions don’t come around as often as we would like, but it will happen if you apply yourself and set a realistic time limit to achieve it. Likewise, your business goals won’t just happen overnight.

The best way to set yourself deadlines is to section them off into years! Think about what you can achieve by the end of this year, then in five years. Even in ten years if your dreams are big enough!

Invest in a good planner like our Getting Things Done Planner, write down everything you wish to achieve and how you plan to get there. This will localize what you want out of life and keep you on track to getting it! Once you have it down on paper, it never feels as daunting as you originally thought!

Be careful though, heavily planning out a life leaves you resistant to opportunities! Be open to new possibilities, you never know where they’ll lead!

 

3. Take responsibility for your life

The only way you can get the life you want is to take responsibility for it. No one’s going to hand you the dream life on a plate! There is only one person responsible for the quality of the life you live and that’s you!

Stop expecting things from people and be prepared to do most of the work alone. That doesn’t mean don’t ask for help when you’re struggling, but be realistic… sometimes that help won’t always be there!

Eradicate blame from your life, it won’t get things done or you where you want to be. Rather channel that energy into more fruitful uses of your time, evaluate your choices and decide whether to change them or not. Be willing to take risks in order to create the life you want and take ownership of them.

 

4. See the ways that you’re already there

It’s so easy to look up at how far we are from the mountain peak, without ever looking back to see how far we’ve climbed!

Recognise that you’re already on your way to achieving what you want out of life. It’s not so daunting now you’ve already begun. Be proud of what you’ve achieved so far, it’s not such a steep climb when you’ve already done a lot of the legwork!

With your dreams written down, begin to see how you’ve already begun to reach them. This will motivate you to never give up and carry on steaming ahead!

 

5. Strengthen your vision

Nobody said getting the life you desire was going to be easy. In fact, it’s hard. Really hard at times. With emotional setbacks, bad habits and thoughts all pulling us down, it’s hard to stay on track all the time. But stay true to your vision. Use it as your light at the end of the tunnel.

If you have a really bad week, even month, remember why you’re doing all this. The stress is worth it when you picture where you could be! Keep the vision alive when things don’t go your way.

However you hold onto your dreams, through photographs or pin boards, journaling, and affirmations, do it every day. When you experience hurdles, you won’t run away but hit them head on knowing one day you will get there!
 

6. Make “one day” today!

Most people don’t use their day wisely. Even the most successful Career Girl can fall victim to not using her time productively!

Of course, there is a time and place for Netflix, but even utilizing two hours in your day to making your dreams come true isn’t that much to ask! Especially when most of us are awake for around fourteen hours – sometimes more!

Start with a morning routine. Get yourself in the right head space when beginning your day. Waking up earlier gives you time and energy to achieve more in the day and it’s no myth that the early birds catch the worm!

Take a few hours a day to work towards the things you love! Utilize your morning commute, lunch breaks and evenings! Think how much faster you can get what you want out of life if you start working today and every day until you get your dream life!
