Victoria Beckham is pretty much goals at this point. She’s evidence of what can happen when you put your mind to it, she could’ve faded out into the background after her music career but she pushed to try new things and started a fashion line off the back of her renowned status. Speaking about her success, Victoria credited a series of mentors that have supported her throughout the years including Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg. She also explained how she herself tries to support other women both professionally and personally. “Three-quarters of my business is run by strong women. Every day I go into work and I’m inspired by women who work incredibly hard alongside having families.”
“Most of the senior management staff are women. I didn’t employ them because they are women, but because they were the best at the job…”
Victoria admits that not every woman has been supportive of her dream in the past, but that being supportive and surrounding herself with supportive people has helped push her forward.
“Support each other. Be that woman…It’s really bad if you don’t. And there are women like that. And when I look back in the past about things that might be said about me or written about, a lot of the time it’s been by other women. It’s disappointing and that is so often that case. So my message would be… don’t be that young girl, don’t be that woman. Let’s change that.”

EMBRACE YOUR AMBITION
Tory Burch has a hugely successful brand behind her, and yes, it was a lot to do with the team behind her, but her vision and her driving force are what propelled it forwards.
She remembers giving the credit away to other people a lot, and over the years has realized that being ambitious is nothing to be afraid of.
“I talk a lot about this, because ambition in women is such a negative, compared to ambition in men. When I started out, the first article on me and the company was in The New York Times and a good friend of mine, this incredible businesswoman who started Tribeca Film Festival, read the article and said, ‘I loved it, congratulations, but you shouldn’t shy away from the word ambition.’

DON’T BE TOO DEPENDENT ON OTHERS
Sheryl Sandberg is known for her advice on working smart, the COO of Facebook didn’t get to where she was by shying away from her own ambition and owning up to her own success.
She’s noticed that there’s another danger for ambitious women, the elusive mentor that women are waiting for before they take action.
“I realized that searching for a mentor has become the professional equivalent of waiting for Prince Charming. We all grew up on the fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty,” which instructs young women that if they just wait for their prince to arrive, they will be kissed and whisked away on a white horse to live happily ever after.
Now young women are told that if they can just find the right mentor, they will be pushed up the ladder and whisked away to the corner office to live happily ever after. Once again, we are teaching women to be too dependent on others.” When successful women share their tips for success, listen up, but don’t wait for someone to teach you what you need to be doing.
