Everybody wants a Fitbit! The app is one of the most downloaded apps in the app store at the moment, which shows they are more popular than ever! And with our fitness goals needing serious evaluation after our holiday binge eating, they’re the perfect companion to our next year goals.
If you’ve taken the plunge and bought one for yourself, or are hoping to receive one this Christmas, here are some tips to get the most from your device. So here’s to 2017, and using our Fitbits to become fitter, healthier and more active versions of ourselves!
Set up MobileTrack
So you accidentally left your Fitbit by the shower, or on charge, or at work, you can still track your progress on your phone in the meantime. It’s not quite as accurate as the Fitbit itself, but it will do. To turn on ‘MobileTrack’, go to the ‘Account’ tab in the app, tap ‘Set Up a Device’ and select ‘MobileTrack’. Anytime you forget your Fitbit, the app will default to MobileTrack for tracking basic information until it reconnects to your device.
Use the Dominant Hand setting
If your Fitbit doesn’t seem to be counting your steps correctly, you might want to play around with the ‘Dominant Hand’ setting, which you can find in the dashboard under ‘Wrist’. If your device appears to be over counting steps, you might want to set it to ‘dominant’ and if you think your device might be under-counting, try switching to ‘non-dominant’.

Turn off All-Day Sync
‘All-Day Sync’ forces your Fitbit to constantly sync with your phone, which can be useful but is mostly not necessary. Turning it off saves loads of battery life, and you can still track your progress on your actual device. You can also manually sync your Fitbit with your phone at any time, whilst still saving battery life. To turn ‘All-Day Sync’ off go to the ‘Account’ tab in the app, select the device and toggle the ‘All-Day Sync’ button off.
Customize your Dashboard
Fitbit gathers all sorts of information, and you are likely to care about some more than others. You can customize your dashboard to only show your favorite stats using the app. Tap ‘Edit’ in the top left-hand corner, and then uncheck any data you don’t want to be on your dashboard. You can also drag and drop items to rearrange how they will appear on your Fitbit.
Now you’re ready to kill it and be fitter than ever!
