We all know that getting that dream job requires hard work and dedication. Sometimes things don’t go as expected and you end up being ‘in between jobs’. Your friends are all working and you spend most of your days binge-watching ‘Orange is the New Black’ on Netflix or creating fantasy job interviews in your head. In those situations it’s important you stay focused and positive. Here are five ideas to make the most of your free-time.
#1 Stay fit
Creating a daily or weekly workout routine is very important. No worries, we don’t expect you to go the the gym five days a week. A nice, long walk or a yoga tutorial on YouTube will also do the trick. It will help to reduce stress and keeps you in shape. I would say it’s a win-win situation. Check out some handy exercises you can do from home here!
#2 Educate yourself
Follow an online course or read that book everybody recommended. It is important to stay up-to-date with your field of interest. Go on the internet and explore the latest trends in your work field. So when you have your next job interview you know exactly what is going on. We’ve even made a list of our favourite courses for career girls, hurrah!
Make your days count. Why not volunteer in a dog shelter? Or start writing for the local newspaper? These kind of social institutions are often looking for extra help. Besides you may never know what expanding your network could do for you in the future!
#4 Get your goals straight
The demand of work is enormous and without having a single clue what you want to do and how you are going to get there, you are just a lost puppy. So make a plan, set goals and be specific in how you’re going to achieve them. Once you have a clear vision on what your next step could be, you can continue the job-hunt. It might even help to make a vision board!
Last but not least, you are only human. There will be days when you just want to stay in your pyjamas and watch your favourite series all day long. And that’s okay. Enjoy the free-time you have, because once you are back to a full time job, you are going to regret it if you didn’t.
