Ahh the VMAs, they have brought us so many unforgettable moments and personalities over the years. This year was no exception. Here are our favorite moments of the 2016 VMAs…and there are some corkers.

1. Drake admitted he’s loved Rihanna since he was 22

When Rihanna won the Lifetime Achievement Award, none of us expected Drake’s speech to be the main point. His speech to present her with the award was seriously passionate, and really heated up the whole ‘Are Drake and Rihanna an item?’ debate.

“But most of all, we love the woman who hasn’t changed since day one. She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old. She’s one of my best friends in the world. All my adult life, I’ve looked up to her even though she’s younger than me. She’s a living breathing legend in our industry.” I mean cute, right?

2. Beyoncé came, saw and conquered

As always, Beyoncé brought her game to the show. She performed fierce tracks, smashed up a camera and just brought entertainment and talent to the show. She brought the mothers of police violence victims Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Garner and Oscar Grant into her circle and posed with them which made a really powerful statement in the show.

She actually cemented her status as a music legend, performing “Pray You Catch Me,” “Hold Up,” “Sorry,” “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” and “Formation.” She blew everyone out of the water. To top it all off, she coordinated her outfit with Blue Ivy. Which was SERIOUSLY cute.

3. Kanye does a Kanye

I feel like Kanye uses these opportunities to do something crazy for sales and promotion. He must be a smart business man, always thinking of ways to hit the headlines after a show. This time, it was his 4-minute speech that caught our attention. Taylor Swift didn’t make it to the VMAs but that didn’t stop Kanye from bringing her up. Here’s an excerpt:

“You know, just the audacity to put Anna Wintour right next to Donald Trump. I put Ray J in it bro. This is fame, bro. I see you Amber. My wife is a G, not a lot of people wise to what I’m saying. We came over in the same boat and now we all in the same bed. Well maybe different boats but uh, you know. If you think about last week, there was (sic) 22 people murdered in Chicago. Like people come to me like ‘damn, that’s right, take Taylor,’ like bro, I love all y’all. That’s why I called her.” Oooookay Kanye…

4. Alicia Keys made a speech, too.

Alicia Keys is going through a really inspiring time at the moment. The show was on the 53rd anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, so Alicia commemorated this by reciting a poem and ending it with a song. Maybe the sincerest moment of the whole awards ceremony? Besides Drake’s confession of love, of course.

5. Chrissy Teigen wasn’t there but we all wished she was

Chrissy Teigen live tweeted the VMAs from the comfort of her home, which made many of us want her as a host for next year. Her simple tweets of ‘Oh Man’ ‘lol’ when Britney’s much-hyped performance had to follow Beyoncé (cruel?) summed up all our feelings. Some of her followers debated whether Chrissy was mad about ‘lip-synching’. But her cryptic tweets were probably the best part of the show:

6. Kim Kardashian’s hair/dress combo

Yes, the world went mad for Kim Kardashian’s hair/dress combo. She turned up to the VMAs sporting a really chic wet-hair look (something most of us are way too afraid to try) and a figure-hugging, sheer dress that showed off her recent weight-loss. Whether you love her or hate her, she killed it and looked fierce as hell!

Damn I really wish I had watched it now! There were some serious bold political statements here and I love that more celebrities are actually becoming active in an attempt to change the status quo
