6 Reasons You Should Visit Antwerp This Year

Antwerp is one of my favorite places for a city trip. Whether it’s with your boyfriend or your BFF, you’ll have a great time! This city’s got it all: delicious food, great shops, beautiful architecture and nice people, so if you decide to go there (lucky you!) you might want to hop by these favorites!

1. Burgers And Booze

After a long day of shopping, you’re probably in the mood for burgers and booze – if so, go to Burgers And Booze (does what it says on the tin!). The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very cool – they even have gluten free buns, so big bonus points! Make reservations, because it’s a tiny place, and very popular.

2.Pelgrom

If you’re only dining out for one night in Antwerp, please go to Pelgrom. I force all my friends to go there and everybody loves it as much as I do. The whole restaurant is beneath street level and only lit with candles (romantic!). It’s like having dinner in the 1600s, but hey; there’s no better filter than candlelight, so you’ll look awesome!

3. Vlaaikensgang

Next to Pelgrom is the awesome hidden street ‘Vlaaikensgang’. It’s like time traveling without the machines. It’s hard to find (it feels like you’re walking into someone’s backyard, but you’re not!) but truly breathtaking. Make sure you take your phone with you because this is the perfect place for a quick insta-snap!

4. De Koninck

If you’re in Antwerp with your man and feel guilty about your excessive shopping trip, take him to De Koninck. It’s Antwerp’s most famous beer brewery, and every Saturday a lucky few get a special tour and even a beer tasting sesh! There are no tickets or reservations, all you have to do is show up on time. The tour starts at 15.00, and there’s only room for the first 30! Cheers!

5. De Colvenier

De Colvenier is not only one of the best restaurants in the city, but it also has a special wine basement. It’s closed on Sundays, so better plan this one!

6. De Meir

Antwerp is heaven for fashion lovers. It’s where fashion designers Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Nooten and Raf Simons were schooled, and even has its own Fashion District! If you love window shopping at the high-end stores, you should definitely go to Schuttershofstraat, but if your paycheck is more like mine you probably want to go the De Meir (which is equally awesome!). Also a great tip: the Stadsfeestzaal is on the same road as De Meir and in between both budgets. I love to walk around in this majestic atmosphere and indulge in the luxury! Don’t forget to make a pitstop at Munch Me Frozen Yogurt.

Would you ever consider going to Antwerp for a city stop?

  3. Ha, I totally love seeing this described from a ‘tourists’ point of view. I’m kinda tempted to try playing tourist in own province this summer.
