If you want to embrace what you’ve got or try a few easy tricks to get perfect hair every single day – these hacks will make sure that you have the best hair of your life every single day!

If you have . . . dry or damaged hair

If you want your hair to have some serious healthy shine, you should do an at-home miracle conditioning treatment. All you need is coconut oil and a little bit of time.

Heat up 2tbsp of coconut oil (between your hands or by placing a cup in hot water)
Make sure the coconut oil is not too hot before you start using it!
Massage oil into the scalp
Comb hair and leave for 15-30 minutes depending how much time you have
Shampoo oil out of hair

Why it works: The fatty acids in coconut oil prevent hair from breaking, lauric acid, in particular, works well with the natural proteins in hair to help it grow. Coconut oil also penetrates hair follicles and moisturizes them from the outside in, contributing to that brilliant shine.

If you want . . . super easy bouncy curls

_9650977I’m extremely lazy when it comes to doing my hair and rarely even go beyond a brush. But for those nights out where I want curls, I wrap sections of my hair around a cocktail stick (or a pencil – something round and thin that won’t burn) and then apply heat with hair straighteners. It’s actually as easy and painless as it sounds.  To keep them bouncy use Serge Normant ‘Dream Big’ Instant Volumizing Spray.

Why it works: After curling your hair you need a dry spray with a lot of hold. I usually use a mixture of hairspray, sea salt spray, and gel, but this hairspray negates the use of four or five different products. It volumizes and strengthens hair but it’s weightless and ultra light, so perfect for anyone who usually loses their curls half way through the day. Available here.

If you have . . . frizzy hair

You should try to combat the frizz with a cream or gel that will hydrate and smooth the hair down, stay away from texturizing sprays as you’re trying to tame those flyaways. Some people swear by using a dryer sheet on a brush or applying hand cream before you start touching your hair. One great product for frizz is Bumble and Bumble DeFrizz.

Why it works: This product works in any weather to control curls and smooth frizz. It works better when applied to wet hair and can be combined with other Bumble and Bumble products for an ultimate salon finish. It contains Dimethicone which helps to enhance the glossiness of hair, too. Available here.

If you have . . . oily hair

Oily hair is a nightmare, and if you’re aware of it, you’re more likely to touch it – which is the worst thing you can do. You should also only condition the ends and avoid overwashing, over brushing and straightening your hair. It sounds like a lot, but all of these contribute to oil build up, and the closer your hair lies to your scalp the more oil it will come into contact with. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day dry shampoo will absorb those oils.

Why it works: This dry shampoo contains a fast-absorbing powder to absorb oil and sweat in the hair. It’ll instantly mattify your scalp and give you some texture, and won’t need topping up thanks to the time-release fragrance and OFPMA molecule, which reduces surface friction on hair. Available here.

If you want . . . silky straight hair

_9025225If you don’t have naturally straight hair but you want it – you know that over straightening can cause serious damage. To painlessly keep your hair straight there are a few things you can do to prepare your hair, after washing your hair, seal and smooth the cuticle with a blast of cold water, then don’t rub your hair with a towel, gently blot it. Before you go at it with your heat tools, remember to use the cold setting on the hair dryer to set it your straight hair in place, and use Aveda Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight Hair Treatment.

Why it works: This formula works to straighten curls with every use, the plant-derived fibers in it work to create a locking layer as you blow dry which holds your hair straight day after day and creates a barrier against humidity. After using it for five times, your hair will stay straight for up to three washes. Available here.

If you have . . . coarse, thick, hair

Similar to making your hair straighter, if you just want to tame your coarse hair it starts with smart showers. Use cold water to seal the cuticle, but finish your styling with a great hair oil that will tame frizz and add some light and smoothness to your hair. Ouai Hair Oil is great for managing thick hair.

Why it works: This oil seals ends of hair and smoothes frizz, it also gives you a high-gloss smooth finish thanks to the African galanga, ama and Asian borage oils in it. It also works amazingly for keeping color fresh and protecting from heat damage. It’s a great all-rounder. Available here.

If you want . . . healthier hair

This is especially good if you dye your hair a lot or use a lot of product. Every so often you should make an at-home vinegar cleanse for your hair. This rinse will remove all that product build up in your hair, properly cleanses it and loses up the cuticles of your hair.

Place 1/4 cup of cider vinegar in 1 cup of water
Pour it over your hair in the shower and work through from roots to end
Rinse with cold water

Why it works: Acetic acid in apple cider vinegar kills bacteria, which sometimes cause dandruff and hair loss, and cleansing once every couple of weeks with apple cider vinegar is a great preventative for this kind of thing. The vinegar won’t weigh down your hair and some people say they don’t have to use heat styling tools afterward.

If you want . . . blonder hair

s1815141-main-lheroIf like me, you are a very unnatural blonde, you’ll know that it fades pretty easily. To avoid yellowing hair, dark roots and that ‘I need to make an appointment with my hair stylist’ look, you need purple shampoo. Stat. dpHue Cool Blonde Shampoo is the best for neutralizing those tones.

Why it works: A highly pigmented purple shampoo hides brassy tones within five minutes. I like to leave mine on for ten, allowing my hair to absorb a small amount of purple pigment which cancels out any red or yellow undertones and makes blue undertones brighter, lighter, and ashy. Available here.
