Everybody likes a lie in and morning’s can be hard work if you don’t get enough sleep. It can be impossible to convince yourself to actually get up, especially if you’re doling out your precious time for a shower, choosing your outfit and doing your makeup and hair. But it’s important to make the most of your mornings, they can help determine the rest of your day and lay foundations for better habits and a more productive week. If you’re struggling to make the most of your mornings, here’s seven morning moments every girl needs!

#1 Water
It’s important to rehydrate yourself after a night’s sleep. So as well as splashing your face with cold water, you should try to drink some. Add some sliced fruit to your water and put it in the fridge overnight for a delicious and healthy drink in the morning.

#2 Breakfast
Never underestimate the importance of breakfast. It stops you having hunger pangs before lunch and can give you a burst of energy for the rest of the day. Make sure you have a breakfast packed with nutrients and vital ingredients to give you a spring in your step for the rest of the day.

#3 Stretches
If you’re so inclined, doing some brief stretches in the morning will help limber you up for the rest of the day. Use an app like Yoga Studio to do stretches at home, it gets the blood pumping, improves your posture and can banish a number of health problems.

#4 Visualise
Take a moment to think about the day ahead of you and focus on the positives. Even if you’re dreading the day ahead, think of all the little happinesses ahead of you and try to make sure you’re feeling good about this day.

#5 Socialise
It’s nice to get some chatting done in the morning, you don’t want to be boxed off with colleagues all day feeling anxious and stressed, so don’t compromise your socialisation. Having a giggle in the morning can help you relax and realise it’s not the end of the world if you have a bad day!

#6 Drink herbal tea
Instead of coffee. Ginger, lemon and peppermint are much better because they contain antioxidants, they cleanse the body and they are rather therapeutic.

#7 Exercise.
Take on a physical activity – e.g. quick jog, brisk walking, swimming, yoga – as part of your morning routine as soon as you wake up. Exercise is a great way to get your body warmed up and functioning.

  1. Healthy breakfast is #1 for me. I cannot function without eating first =)

  2. Can I just say: careful with the orange juice. My mother used to drink orange juice every day when she was around my age and developed an allergy to it (basically every fruit that is acid – oranges, kiwis, lemons, tomatoes…). It went away, eventually, but in the mean time she couldn’t eat any of it. I’m not saying “Don’t do it”, just don’t OVER do it. :)
    Loved the tips :)

  3. Definitely need to make sure I do these. I struggle on the early bedtime though!

  4. I’m drinking more water and I can actually notice the difference – it really does work.

  5. Stupid advice. If someone doesn’t already know these in 2015 they’re living under a rock.

  6. Thanks for the great tipa. I’ve been working on having easier less rushed and stressful mornings! I get everything I’ll need for the next day laid out the night before and usually go visit my horses when I get up! It’s been really nice. Thanks for the yoga stretches app I can’t wait to try it out!

  7. Great tips! I guess tomorrow I will try to drink water as soon as I wake up and do yoga. I always wanted to try it!

  8. Milking goats in the morning is also therapeutic PLUS you get milk for your cereal!

  9. Love these ideas! I especially loved the tip about focusing our mind on what is good and beautiful, rather than the negative. This happens for me when I pray and mentally give my worries to God, but non-religious people can use visualization or mediation for a similar effect.

  10. I’m with you, Cherise. Meditation or contemplation on our best good, in Him and who we are in Him, is a wonderful start to the day.

  11. What an amazing difference I feel when I follow these steps each morning. I would also recommend every night to try and make it a habit to shutdown all electronic devices (iPads, IPhones, Laptops) that could be distracting and disrupt your sleep patterns.

  12. All good tips, though I must add that tea and coffee both contain a certain amount of antioxidants themselves. They also lessen the chance of heat attack and stroke when they are used in moderation; say one -two cups per day.

  13. I can vouch for all of these things, especially the yoga stretches and a good breakfast! I do 10-20 mins of yoga on myyogaworks.com every morning, and always have a big bowl of oatmeal + yogurt + fruit (I call it my oatgoop) or a smoothie bowl. Check out my latest recipe on my blog!

  14. love this post. It’s all pretty simple advice, and you dole it out in great simple style. I love the idea of socializing with a friend to start the day!

  15. Wonderful and simple! I also like to repeat an affirmation for my day to get me started on the right track. :) But I do most of these (honey + lemon water is my favorite)!

  16. Nina, I think Susan was just making a comment on the recommendation of having a healthy breakfast. And speaking of orange juice, which I love, it’s loaded with calories; my Dr. told me to go easy, or better yet, eat an orange.
