With fall just around the corner, it’s time to rethink our fashion and beauty looks in the office. It can be often difficult picking nail polishes that incorporate the season’s must-have shades whilst being office friendly at the same time. There’s a fine line between office appropriate nails and bold and daring weekend shades so stay clear of bright yellows just to be on the safe side! Here at CGD, we’ve rounded up 7 perfect office friendly colours that will keep you looking sophisticated and professional whilst being bang on trend.
1. The Classic French Manicure
Nothing says sophistication quite like a french manicure and this nail look is on trend all year round, whatever the season. Wear this chic trend in the office and you’ll look effortlessly put together, even if you don’t always feel like it!
For this fall, try this classic grown-up pink french manicure by Essie. Start by applying a base coat, followed by two layers of Essie’s Mademoiselle which is the perfect subtle pink shade. Then using the shade Blanc, brush on a neat arc across the free edge of the nail and complete with a top coat for perfectly stylish office nails.
2. The Subtle Glitter
If you want to experiment with glitter but want to keep the look professional and office-friendly then trying subtle glitter ombre against a neutral nail polish shade works really well. Tom Ford’s Nail Polish in the shade Toasted Sugar is a lovely nude that gives your nails a flawless base before applying a touch of glitter. Then layer a Luxe Effect Glitter Top Coat from Essie, in the colour of your choice to finish the look; Rock at the Top and Set in Stones are my firm favourites.
3. The Timeless Red
American designer Bill Blass once said, “When in doubt, wear red” and this is something that has never been truer when it comes to nails. It is a timeless classic that has been on trend for decades so what better shade to wear in the office for a sophisticated look.
A classic red, such as crimson contrasts well with those with fair skin to leave your hands looking crisp and clean; try Chanel’s Le Vernis Nail Colour in the shade Rouge Rubis. For olive skin tones it’s best to opt for warm, bright tomato red shades such as this Butter London Nail Lacquer in Ladybird.
4. The Low-key Pastels
Don’t be mistaken by thinking that pastels can only be worn in spring because they make for a great office nail colour too. Essie’s Nail Polish in Fiji is a pale pink pastel shade that has become a cult product amongst the beauty elite; it is the ultimate off-duty nail colour. For a mint green pastel then the shade Thasos from NARS works wonders on nails as the high-gloss formula glides effortlessly onto the nails whilst lasting for a long time without chipping.
5. The Vampy Berry
As fall gets underway one trend that was big on the AW15 catwalks was dark wine and berry shades on nails. If you want to treat your nails with something luxurious, then Chanel’s Le Vernis in the shade Rouge Noir is a great addition to your nail polish collection. For a more wine-based red shade then Essie’s Bordeaux is a firm choice as the polish glides on effortlessly whilst the big flat brush makes for easy application in a few coats.
6. The Charcoal Grey
If you’ve ever thought grey can be a dull and lacklustre nail polish colour, then think again. The new ‘It’ grey this season is charcoal grey. It’s the perfect mix of shades as it’s not too dark or too light. This dusky shade from NARS perfectly suits fall’s dark mood and intensity for an elegant look on the tips of your fingers.
7. The Metallics
Now depending on how strict your workplace is, this may not be entirely suitable but if you are allowed then it’s a great trend to rock this fall. To recreate the look that was all over the AW15 catwalks, use Topshop’s Nail Polish in the shade Aurora for a beautiful and shimmery look. If you want to opt for a champagne-hued metallic shade, then this O.P.I Nail Lacquer is a great colour that will keep your fingernails sparkling through the long working day.
