7 Simple Steps To Become Incredibly Organized: How To Plan Your Week

DSC_0511“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs

It’s time for a change.  From now on try to reserve a minimum of an hour on Sunday evening for your planning process.  By planning your week in advance, you will be able to complete most of your important tasks while also leaving time free for other priorities in your life such as relationships, hobbies, and well-being.

#1 Get ready and comfortable

Put on your favorite relaxing music. Get something to drink, shut off the Internet and find a quiet place. It’s time for your weekly planning process.

#2 List all of the tasks you need to accomplish over the next week.

The first thing you do is list all of the tasks you want to do in the next week. Next set priorities and categorize your tasks.

#3 Next schedule everything

Schedule the time you need to accomplish your tasks. This will help you stay focused. Understand that things will pop up unexpectedly.

#4 Get a planner/calender

I use a notebook for my weekly planning, together with Wunderlist(for my to do’s) and Google Calender. There are many options available, and you should choose what works best for you. I prefer to use a written planner, but there are many more technologically advanced ways to plan.

#5 Cut those tasks that do not fit into your calendar.

Schedule it for the next week or add it to you to-do list for next week.

#6 Check your plan first thing in the morning

All of this planning will be of no help to you if you don’t consult your planner and follow the plan. I use Google Calender, which reminds me every morning of important upcoming events.

#7 Review

At the end of each day, reflect on what you enjoyed doing. This will help you being grateful for each day and ultimately live a more fulfilling life.

TIP! On Pinterest, you can find free weekly planners you can use to plan your week.

I always plan my week on Monday morning because Mondays I work from home and a lot of my weekly schedule refers to work items, as I am traveling most of the week.
Like this I have my Sunday for myself, and use work time to do my work planning.

Sunday is my planning day! So many things going on with being a mommy, my job, my blog, trying to squeeze in some Yoga, eat well (and cook!)… I would be lost without my planning ritual.

    Check out Passion Planners! http://www.passionplanner.com/

I got one in December to use for 2015, and I LOVE it. It helps facilitate a lot of the things you’ve listed here. I even got a couple for my sister (a college student) and my boyfriend (a graduate researcher). I work a corporate job. It seems to be universal!

I use my field notes size travellers notebook with day per page, and month on 2 page inserts to plan. It helps keep me organized and it is cute.
