No one expects you to leap out of bed to the sweet sounds of the birds each morning but rolling out of bed each day wanting to throw your face back into the pillow is not the best way to start any day. Everyone deserves to be in a career doing something they love so if you haven’t yet found your calling then read on and take note.
#1 Think about what gets you up in the morning
I don’t mean the double espresso that makes you feel remotely human, I mean think about what makes you want to get up, get dressed and get on with your day. They do say if you do what you love you will feel like you haven’t had to work a day in your life.
#2 Think about what you don’t want
Sometimes deciding what you absolutely do not want to do can help you decide what you actually do want to do, if your current job leaves you wanting to run for the hills then don’t be afraid to leave for new opportunities. You should never leave yourself financially unstable but also never be tied down doing something you can’t stand.
#3 Think about what are you good at
We all have skills; most often they are different from those of the person standing next to you, that is what makes you just as valuable as the next person. Working in a job you are naturally very good at can make you feel like a valued part of the team, going to work everyday knowing you play an important role can really boost self confidence and make you strive to do well.
#4 Don’t give up
Becoming an overnight success can actually take years; it takes hard work and determination to get to where you want to be. If you see your dream career as almost impossible or out of your reach then sometimes all it takes is determination and a few setbacks to make you stronger and make you really work for it. Nothing worth having comes easily.
#5 Gain experience
If your unsure of what you want out of a career then why not try your hand at a few different things, there’s no harm in testing the waters and changing direction if you’re not happy in your current job. Not everyone can afford to work unpaid but perhaps start an evening course in something you enjoy and get an understanding for if you could turn your hobby into a career.
#6 Don’t make money your sole focus
We would all love a 6 figure salary and a dream house in the city but realistically money isn’t actually the be all and end all, especially not in the beginning. Work because you want to not because you need to pay the bills, never get stuck in a job that you dread going to every single day. If you find you have to drag yourself out of bed each morning then perhaps its time for a change.
#7 Seek professional help
There are so many people out there who are all eager to get you on track with your perfect career, these people get paid to help you find a job that is near perfect for you so don’t be afraid to seek help if you ever feel a little lost.
