The way you start your day sets the tone. Think about it: if you hit the snooze button on your alarm five times, and you get out of bed late, you’ll be rushed. You won’t have time to look your best, grab coffee, or make your lunch. Your whole day is thrown off. Even if you aren’t a morning person, you can establish a routine that sets a good tone for your entire day. Here are seven things you should do before getting out of bed each morning.
1
Enjoy the moment
When you first open your eyes, do you hear rain outside or is it sunny? Is your love sleeping soundly next to you or is coffee brewing in the kitchen? Whatever the case may be, enjoy it. Soak it in. Be thankful for the sun or for the rain. Starting your day off with a moment of gratefulness can leave you feeling refreshed, awake and happy for the rest of the day. The easiest way to do this is to use a gratitude journal, it will help you focus on being in the moment and noticing all the little things around you.
2
Get your body ready for the day
We all know that stretching is good for the body. It’s good for injury prevention, circulation, and posture. Before you jump out of bed in the morning, do a few gentle stretches. You can look up a routine to follow or just stretch your body and long as it will go. You’ll have more pep in your step when you get out of bed if you’ve worked out all the kinks from the night before. You can plan your morning workouts, yoga and stretches with the Fit planner, in fact, it’s an amazing way to stay motivated and on track with your workouts.
3
Consider what you have to do
As you begin to wake up, think about the things you absolutely must get done today. How will you accomplish it all? Do you need to ask someone for help? Make a rough plan for your day so you can hit the ground running.

4
Drink some water
Most of us don’t drink enough water, living in a state of chronic dehydration. Guess what? That makes you feel tired. You can start your day off right by doing a little prep work the night before. Put a water bottle beside your bed each night and drink 8 ounces before you get out of bed.
5
Set your affirmations
If a specific area of your life is causing stress, formulate affirmations that put the issue in a positive, current state. For example, “I am a confident person”. Recite 2 or 3 affirmations to yourself each morning.
6
Boost your happiness
No one is watching and you might not have a reason, but start your day off with a smile. Smiling has been shown to release endorphins and reduce stress. The very act of smiling also makes you feel happier, so even if you don’t have a specific reason to smile, do it anyway!
7
Just breathe
Take in several deep, cleansing breaths. Deep breathing is a great way to release tension, so you’ll start your day off feeling relaxed. This also allows you to get oxygen into your blood, so you’ll be alert more quickly.
No, you don’t have to do all 7 things before getting out of bed, but the more you fit into your schedule, the better off you’ll be. If you are sceptical, start off with 2 or 3 of these actions, adding in more as you see the benefits! I definitely need to work on enjoying the moment before just hopping out of bed and rushing to think about what needs to get done for the day. It makes such a difference in starting the morning off the right way!

This is great! Whenever I have to get up early I always take a few seconds to think through the first things I’m doing for the day, as a way to mentally prepare myself :)

I’m going back to school in less than two weeks, really hope that these tips will help me a tiny bit to get out of my warm, cosy bed at 6.40 am :(
I love this post. I tend to struggle with mornings so I’m definitely going to add some of these ideas into my routine. Tonight I’ll be taking a water bottle to bed for morning rehydrating.
These are such fantastic types, especially being appreciative of the moment itself. I am definitely going to add all of these tips to my morning routine!
