8 Beach Books You Won’t Regret Taking On Holiday

Vacation season is nearly upon us, we’re doing our clothes shopping right now, stocking up on dresses and pretty swimwear, and the other thing we can’t stop talking about in the office is what books we are going to read when we’re laying by the pool or on the sun loungers. We’re all different in the office, some of us swear by a good old fashioned hardback, others love to read on their devices, some of us love romances, others love horror stories.

I’ve decided to do a roundup of books because you can seriously never have enough good reads. These books will take you from evenings in the starlight, to the beach, to the pool, and back on the plane home.

1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine available here.

It’s been a while since I’ve fallen in love with a book’s heroine so completely. Eleanor is not your typical girl, she doesn’t have many friends, barely speaks to her family (except for her very unhinged mother) and has fallen in love with a musician. She starts transforming herself bit by bit, dressing nicely, getting her hair done, and spending time with an unsuitable man called Raymond. Funnily enough, he helps her figure out the grief she’s been holding on to and find her place in the world. Buy it here.

2. The Ultimate Blog Plan

The Ultimate Blog Plan available here.

The perfect book keeps you entertained from the moment you open it. Not only is The Ultimate Blog Plan part advice manual and part workbook. It’s also filled with a few juicy stories on the conception of Career Girl Daily. Described as a book that you can’t put down, bring a pen with you to the poolside. You’ll want to get down to the nitty-gritty, fill in all the worksheets and find out what kind of online business you’re going to start up! BONUS: We now have FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE for 24 hours only! Get it before it’s gone here.

3. The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson

The Butterfly Garden available here.

Ready to start a trilogy? There’s no better time than when you’re on vacation, surely? This chilling story tells of a collection of young women who are kidnapped and kept in a garden, becoming a collection of “butterflies” for a twisted man known as the Gardener.

FBI agents Victor Hanoverian and Brandon Eddison have to piece together exactly what happened by questioning a survivor, Maya. But her story is strange, and the more she shares, the more the agents wonder what secrets she buried in the garden, too. If you love twisty mystery novels, you will race through this! Buy it here.

4. Eight Hundred Grapes by

Eight Hundred Grapes available here.

If you’re looking for a book you won’t be able to put down, this is it. Georgia Ford is about to get married, when she discovers (just a week before her wedding!) that her fiancé has been keeping secrets from her. Devastated, she returns to the family winery, but when she gets home, it’s not just her fiancé who’s been keeping secrets from her. I’d describe this book as a great pairing with a glass of wine, it’s sweet, funny, relatable and a little bit bitter. Buy it here.

5. The Girls by Emma Cline

The Girls available here.

I got a copy of this a few years ago when the cover was different and the edits hadn’t quite been made yet. Back then, I already knew I was reading something special, and now it’s everywhere. All over the subway, stacked up in bookstores, And it’s become an instant bestseller! I won’t spoil it for you, but it is really very good. It’s all about girlhood, friendship, and explores the cult mentality. Buy it here.

6. Lily and the Octopus by Steven Rowley

Lily and the Octopus available here.

Ready to laugh in public? Good, because this book is just what the doctor (or vet) ordered. Ted is gay, single, and a struggling writer. He can’t find a partner, can’t find inspiration, and relies on the companionship of his dog, Lily. When Lily’s health is compromised, Ted vows to save her by any means. You’d think this book couldn’t possibly be as funny and sweet as it is, given the subject matter of an elderly and ill dog, but it is. I loved it. Buy it here.

7. Adnan’s story by Rabia Chaudry

Adnan’s Story available here.

Before Making A Murderer, there was Serial. The trending podcast about Adnan Syed’s incarceration. In early 2000 he was convicted and sentenced to life plus thirty years for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. If you didn’t listen to it, don’t worry, the case is seriously fascinating and every episode has you asking yourself a series of questions that you aren’t sure you want to know the answers for.

Anyway, his childhood friend Rabia Chaudry believes he is innocent, which is why she contacted Sarah Koenig, which resulted in Serial, a podcast with over 500 million listeners. Now Rabia is telling the story that Serial did not. You’ll love it if you love true crime. Buy it here.

8. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us available here.

This is a romantic book that will have you in tears, so if you love that soppy, warm feeling that reading about love gives you – then read this. Lily has had a tough life and Ryle is the right kind of guy for her, but he has sworn off relationships for good. Lily is building up a relationship with Ryle and earning his trust, until her first love reappears and things get more than a little complicated. Buy it here.
