8 Ways Successful People Survive

Jill Luise

Jill Luise

The ultimate goal is happiness, right?  Right.  But along the way, most of us want success too, and success is not an easy thing to attain.  In the pursuit of happiness and success, we often feel as if we’ve fallen into a pool of quicksand; no emergency flotation device in sight.  As hard as life gets, remember than it can be done!  Here are 8 ways successful people survive!

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

– John Lennon

#1 Refrain from getting emotional

Almost always, anything hurtful is just business, so do not get offended or emotional.  There are many times in your career when your emotional threshold will be tested.  Breathe, stay rational, and keep your business thoughts separate from your personal thoughts.

#2 Know Your Morals

Sometimes we need rules.  Decide what you stand for, what you don’t stand for, what you expect from others, and what you expect from yourself.

#3 Carry some business cards on you

You never know who you might meet on your way to the office.  An agent, a billionaire looking to invest, a celebrity, Prince Harry.  Toss a business card their way!  You might just make an connection that has tons of potential.

#4 Love the haters

There will always be haters.  Haters gonna hate.  Rather than look down on them for being so judgemental, appreciate them for the fuel that they give you to prove them wrong!

5. Don’t complain

If the situation cannot be changed, there’s no need to complain.  If the situation can and should be changed, don’t waste time thinking or complaining about the fact that it could be changed.  Change it!  Successful people make the change before others have stopped whining.

#6 Maintain a nutritious diet

Most of the time, we don’t realize how much of an impact our food intake has on our daily activity.  In order to be successful, you have to go through a lot of work, time, and stress.  And in order to deal with that stress, you have to give your body the proper types of fuel it needs to function at its best.

#7 Question convention

The successful ones always examine the norm with a critical eye.  Is there another way of making this?  Could we do that more effectively?  What about that instead?

#8 Be caring

If you don’t care about something, anything at all, then eventually you will get tired of labouring over a dream that doesn’t mean anything.  Care about your co-workers, your mission statement, animal rights, literacy, gender equality, whatever!  When you decide that what you’re doing will make the world a better place, your work will become more powerful.

Carrying business cards on you at all times is a GREAT tip – I’ve procrastinated in paying for nice ones but totally need to step it up. Anyone know of good places to get business cards?
