9 Easy Habits For A Happier Life

Photography: Career Girl Daily

Are you looking to add a little happiness to your life? Our list of habits is sure to turn that frown upside-down and boost your mood, no matter what the situation…

1. Practice gratitude

What’s good enough for Oprah is good enough for us. Studies have linked being grateful for what you have to long-term happiness. It’s one of the best remedies for a calmer life! You can achieve this by starting a gratitude journal. Before going to sleep every night, write down five things you’re grateful for. Easy-peasy!

2. Buy a watch

Being mindful of the time is the best way to make sure you’re not wasting it! Studies have shown that wearing an analog (not digital) watch makes us more aware of time passing, making tardiness less of an issue. Buy a watch you love wearing! Plus, an excuse to buy a cute analog watch is OK with us!

3. Breathe consciously.

If you’re stressed or in crisis, this is a great way to self-soothe and calm yourself. Take long, slow breaths in through your nose, hold for three counts, and exhale slowly through a small mouth opening (think blowing out the candles on a birthday cake). Relax your face and jaw as you exhale. Do this at least three times for best results!

4. Make exercise a part of your routine

Exercise, along with its many long-term benefits, releases endorphins, which causes an instant high! Plus, being outside and soaking in that Vitamin D will see your happiness soar! Not sure how to get started? Check out our ten-minute workout for a fun way to ease into it!

5. Choose your outfit the night before

This saves me loads of time in the morning! Trust us on this; you should make your important decisions the night before, not first thing in the morning.

How to do it: Make it a part of your night time routine; brush your teeth, put out your clothes, go to sleep. Fold your outfit next to your alarm clock, and after a few days, your body will get used to not hitting snooze, and immediately putting on the killer clothes you’ve chosen!

6. Eat breakfast

We will drill this in until you stop missing your morning fuel! I know a lot of you Career Girls say you just don’t have time. But make the time for the most important meal of the day! If you’re not sure what to eat, see what healthy, successful women eat for breakfast.

7. Laugh

Even if it’s forced, even if it’s because you’re making yourself watch videos of cute cats or Tina Fey, it’s a sure-fire way to boost your happiness! Even fake laughter sends signals to our brains that happiness is happening.

8. Go to bed at the same time every night

You’re waking up at the same time every morning, so why wouldn’t you try to get to bed at the same time every night? Sleep is so pivotal for overall health, and getting enough should be every Career Girl’s priority! Set a bedtime alarm, make a bedtime routine, and stick to it!

9. Read more

Progress makes people happy, and learning definitely qualifies; pick up a book on a subject you want to learn about, or even a classic you’ve been meaning to read forever. If buying a Kindle or bringing a book with you on the go is too big a step, try the article saving app Pocket. It will save articles for you to read even when you’re offline.

Great tips. I especially like the one about picking your clothes the night before. I make my 6 year old do it, but have never thought to do it myself (except for special events). Genius! Thank you :)

I like these tips. Highly agree with the points. Lately my sleeping pattern has been a bit off, but i’m sorting that out. Keep it up

I neeeeed to start picking my outfit out at night because no matter how early I need to wake up, picking out my outfit always takes the longest, and it ALWAYS makes me late! My life would be so much easier if I would just pick it out at night!
Thank you for the inspiration, as always!

Oh my God!! I’m wide-eyed right now because these 9 habits are things I do on a daily basis consciously except for choosing my outfit the night before ( I do that in my head). I must say it feels great!!! And that one about watches is soooo true, I can get ready in 30mins or less in the morning when I’m wearing a watch but when I’m not, I’d definitely take longer.
